Plumbing question: tub spout
Does anyone make a spout with a diverter that's a turn knob/valve that can be locked closed? Can the pull-down diverters advertised on some more expensive bath hardware be locked closed?
I seldom if ever use my tub as a tub, and I hate messing with a chintzy pull knob to make the shower work full-force. Perhaps I should just install the nicest stainless hose bibb I can find |

You can go cheap and cut a piece of rubber tubing, split it, and slide it on the stem of the knob...that should hold it in the up position, and not be permanent. Chose clear hose, so it doesn't stand out.

I'd rather have a rotary valve than messing with split tubing when I want to wash the tub. Does no one offer anything like that?
Is a very nice-looking hose bibb or changing the wall-faucet really my only option?! |

I don't think I've ever seen one with a twist valve...

You could probably find an antique single sink faucet with the pipe entering from the back instead of the bottom. That should work. A used plumbing store or ebay should get you one. It would look better than a hose bib.

Exactly, but would it provide the flow required to fill a tub? Basically, I'm looking for a larger-flowing version of an old wall-mount faucet. Yeah, yeah, I'm picky, but I hate "renovations" where they used piss-poor quality Far Eastern Home Depot garbazhe and it's expected to work.

Usually tubs are fed by 1/2" pipes. Having a bigger spout won't allow any more water than will flow thru that 1/2" pipe.
Edit: Wait a minute. There will be two 1/2" pipes feeding the spout if both hot and cold are wide open. However, I have a weird 3/8" goose neck spout on my tub and it fills the tub just fine.

I just hang my scrub ball on the spout, the elastic holds the diverter knob up.

If it's important, Central Brass products are made in the U.S. Heavy duty stuff.

Thanks for the recommendation -- I went on Central Brass' web site and found the same faucet as shown on the EBay link, except that it has a hose thread rather than a straight end.
(Looks a bit odd, but I actually want to be able to hook up a hose to wash windows.) The Central Brass distributor in NYC appears to be defunct, so I called up the company, and they recommended thefaucetshoppe.com, which can mail-order any of their products within a week and ship from Chicago. Something like $50 including shipping, but worth it for a good quality part, IMHO. |
