The google definition of the word "criminal" is: a person who has committed a crime.

You can discuss whether or not a particular crime is justified or not, but that still does not change the definition.

Not a legal expert but I believe in order to change a law you usually (always?) need to have standing. Someone who is not affected by a law typically does not have standing as far as I know. Perhaps someone else can comment on this.

In other words, as a married man I do not think I would be able to file suite against the state/Fed regarding gay marriage.
