Gabriel Gifford

I am sure the gun lovers out there must hate her, but in watching her painfully getting through the commercial she shot supporting gun control, I am in awe of her personal courage to get up and speak publicly in her clearly damaged condition.

Gutsy gal.

The gun lobby is now in a condition I liken to unions defending and getting a job back for someone drunk on the job. They would serve their cause better to sit down and help identify legislation that will do some good rather than taking such a hard line in the face of all the mass shootings we have had recently.

Its a tough sell when appearing to not care about dead kids (Not saying I feel that way but many, I am sure, do).

She got elected as a Second Amendment Democrat. I have personally heard some vilification of her lately around here. Her strong support of personal gun rights is being conveniently forgotten by the fringe.
Screw them. I admire her.

Tom, I'm sure if your side were to take the AWB and bans on high capacity magazines off the table (Which, BTW, don't work, a fact supported by many studies from both sides of the aisle) and be willing to start looking at how to keep them out of the hands of the mentally insane in a way that doesn't trample on the 2A, then the gun side would be most willing to sit down, and forge proper legislation.

Until then, it's a stalemate.

Correct.

I admire her very much as well. But I don't think screwing the US (which you do by screwing the constitution) because you don't like something in it, is not to be taken lightly. Stalemate for sure until this ban nonsense is dumped.

It will be interesting to see how it plays out.

States can do pretty much whatever they want. Take a look at NY. Banned the high capacity magazines and the assault rifles in a NY minute.

Not the slightest bit of resistance.

Just about impossible to own a handgun in NYC at the moment (legally).

All this ongoing hysteria about gun control is basically moot. Once a state decides to do it, it's a fait accompli.

That's right up there with folks that complain that the people that get handicap parking are so lucky . . .

Creating legislation keyed off one high profile incident is dumb, no matter what subject you are talking about. The anti-gun crowd is not trying to reduce crime, they want to confiscate guns. And I know people say that is not their goal, but that is the end game, they know they cannot take that big a bite on the first pass.

You need to look at what the problem really is. It is not guns, it is the state of mind of the people committing crimes. Crazies. And since you cannot legislate crazies, why would any sane person be in favor of disarming their victims?

If the people who claim they are doing all this to save lives, I call BS. There are many more ways people get killed by others and I see nobody proposing radical un-constitutional legislation for those issues. Try: drunk driving. Nuff said.

Where are the proposals to address mental health issues and keeping firearms out of their hands? The mentally ill may be one of the few handicapped segments that this nation does not want to address.

Yes, it's boiling the frog. Keep raising the temperature slowly and he doesn't think of jumping out of the pot until it's too late.

From what I have seen over the years, those who are not proficient or even so much as knowledgable about guns are scared of them, so they are perfectly happy to be the pawns of the liberals that want to get rid of guns as opposed to addressing the real mental illness problem with some sort of solution.

As far as Gabby goes, I have no problem with her. I never have. It's the people who are manipulating and using her that I have a problem with.

What makes you think she is being manipulated?

Well.... she was a second ammendment person before, now her tune has changed after unfortunate circumstances that have made her appear to gun control proponents to be a poster child for the cause.

If I were a marketing person for the left, the last thing I personally would want to do, would be to exploit the bad fortune of someone for furthering my own cause. But that's just me. In fact, I wouldn't even want anyone to get a mistaken HINT that I was doing such a thing. The liberals exploiting her, obviously don't have the same conscience about the issue that I do.
