Define what the police said was; "unacceptable?" O_o

This must have been in Florida, not Germany. Sad.

And...ironic that the jack-booted gestapo tactics were in the land of the free...

But those HOA CC&R Nazis do love their uniformity.

Make sure to donate to the "Free Mumia" fund. And not because you think he was innocent...

Unless you were being loud/revving up, what business of theirs is it?

Fulcrum525 02-16-2013 10:27 AM

As long as you weren't doing anything loud (Grinding down metal or something.) I really don't see how it could be unacceptable. I wonder which neighbor was looking out the window at 2:00 am....

BenzDieselTuner 02-16-2013 11:28 AM

the motor had not been run since around 10:30.........after that it was a garden hose and some hand tools, no talking, no music, no banging, no one else here, etc......

oh and i know who called, its the neighbor to the left, who, even though he's about 30 years younger than her, is having a feud with my grandmother......all started when he built a fence and part of it is on her yard......drama

oh well, i can be a dick too, next time his countrywestern crap is blaring so loudly that it's echoing back to us from across the 300ft canal and the whole neighborhood can hear it, I'LL call the cops, see how he likes it ! :D

no one ever bothers anyone around here.......i am the exception to the rule......even though i have neighborhood seniority.......we were the first and only house down here back in 83, and it stayed like that for years......only in the past 10 years did all the yuppies move in and take over......now they think they dictate to me what i do in my neighborhood.....

BenzDieselTuner 02-16-2013 11:30 AM

boycott the City of Cape Coral, Florida and never move here, if u appreciate your freedoms !!!

JB3 02-16-2013 12:18 PM

the guy is having a fued with your grandmother and called the cops on you with probably a false noise complaint, and how is this the cities fault if municipalities get drawn into this fued?

sounds like the guy is a dick, not that the city is limiting your rights.

Cop shouldn't have scolded the OP - should have apologized and slapped the neighbor with a few-hundred dollar ticket for filing a frivolous police report.

As far as the fence, does Florida have a spite-fence statute?

would have been a he said she said incident between neighbor and benzdieseltuner with no verification. Cops saying his behavior was unacceptable sounds to me like they were wondering WTF they were doing there in the middle of the night and had zero reason to be there, so just told him he was "unacceptable". :D

The correct thing to say would have been "sorry we bothered you sir, have a good night." But no, most cops' egos are FAR too sensitive to ever admit that they might be wrong.

You have one guy calling in a noise complaint and you arrive to see someone wrenching away. What to believe?

Rubbish. Unless they kiss your ass, they are automatically in the wrong.

What would you expect a cop to do if you called in a noise complaint about your neighbor? Kiss his ass and ticket you?

If it was frivolous, hell yes I should be ticketed. Not that I would call a mere noise complaint in: that's what ear plugs are for :)

The one time that I did call the cops on a neighbor, it was because the obnoxious little tweaker was beating his girlfriend at 4 am and I was afraid he was going to kill her.

I'd prolly believe the tinkerer had started his motor earlier and made noise.
