C/2012 S1 may out shine the moon upon arrival

Comet
Quote:
Doomsayers disappointed by 2012's non-apocalypse will get a sop in 2013 in the form of a rare supercomet. Once widely seen as a portent of doom, comets are seldom as spectacular as the new arrival, known as C/2012 S1 (ISON), may be. At its peak it may outshine the moon, even by day.
I can recall seeing a comet back in the 90's (don't remember the name) and it was visible but quite faint. Seeing one as bright as the moon should be a pretty impressive sight. I hope it lives up to the hype.

Panic in the streets if it's visible in the daytime. Better hoard some more .22LR ammo and re-check the bugout bag.

This is kind of exciting for me as well. I missed out on the previous comets because of poor conditions when they came around. (Kohoutek, Halley's)

I will be a very old man when Halley's comes around again.

I sure hope it'll be a good spectacle. I saw Hally as a Kid in SA though it certainly could not be described as "spectacular" and I saw another about eight years or so ago when I was already here. It was even less so though the nucleus did look good thru a small telescope.

I was living at 8000' on a 200 acre ranch with no neighbors when Hale Bopp came through.
Was spectacular with no light pollution and less atmosphere.

Now when these things begin to occur, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption (deliverance) is drawing near.
