Mississippi newspaper defends gay marriagestory and Rep group supports equal marriage

Why does equal access to marriage generate such hate.

Missisppi

On a brighter note, it would seem that at least some in the GOP are starting to wake up and realize that equality might make sense for them at the ballot box.

Respect for marriage coalition had an ad in favor of equal marriage for all which included Ms Laura Bush. She requested that her comments be removed and they made a new ad in it's place.

I strongly believe it is only a matter of time before equality is granted to all. It could be as soon as this summer when the SCOTUS rules on DOMA and Prop 8.

You want to know why there is so much "hate"? Well because gay activist groups have been using that word so much. Duh...

Our country is so full of people who won't think for themselves and the gay activists have realized that and capitalized on it. Think about it, if I start calling what I want to be passed a "right" which has been kept from me, who's going to oppose it? And if someone does, I can just tell them they "hate" me.

It's just a sad misuse of language.

In fact the only people in the world who say that I hate gay people.... are those who support gay marriage. And its only because they require my vilification to seem the victim.

"I disagree with you" DOES NOT MEAN "I hate you"

It didn't sound like the folks contacting the paper were displaying certain attributes that their religion purportedly promotes.

And here I thought equality under the law was a right. Go figure. Glad that got cleared up.

It is a right per the 14th amendment and it has been kept from them.

Don't know (and don't care) if disagreeing means you hate or not. It does mean you are willing to deny equal rights to individuals. I disagree very strongly with the KKK but I supported their right to march in Skokie or any where else they choose. I believe they are entitles to every right I enjoy.

Here's an idea, David...You say you're for everyone enjoying the same rights as everyone else, right? Fine...Why do you want to regulate a right that is perfectly spelled out in the Bill of Rights?

As for gays getting married...Go ahead and have your civil unions, share your benefits like married couples, I really and truly don't care. What I do care about is people in the LBGT community pushing their lifestyle in the face of others that don't agree, while calling it hate. There's a difference between equality and promoting a lifestyle.

Like was said above...just because I don't agree with you doesn't mean I hate you.

Ah, the "pushing their lifestyle" and "in the face of others" . . . that, dear sir, is an American tradition. I sense that every time Passover rolls around, or when it's time to celebrate the Festival of Lights . . .

What right is being regulated.

How is granting everyone equal rights equal to rights being forced on others? Does allowing members of the KKK equal rights to speak their mind promote the beliefs of the KKK?

Granting equal rights to a segme t of society does not equate to a government t enforcement. Witches can practice witchcraft and the government does not endorse it. You are allowed to practice your faith with out restraint and the government does not endorse your faith. So I fail to see the connection between equal marriage rights and endorsement.

Civil unions as they stand now are not in any way equal to marriage. Even if they were, I am not sure they would pass the separate but equal smell test or the 14th amendment.

But it flys in the face of traditional marriage!!!! Traditional marriage is sacred, as Larry King had shown, and must be protected!

To some, the entire population of LGBT members are stereotypical "gay pride parade" folks. That would be akin to saying that all Christians are like the folks that participate in Mardis Gras and Carnival parades.

Being a Christian, I've never forced my religious beliefs on anyone. Take it or leave it...but I don't force feed it.

My 2 years living in Utah opened my eyes to forcing religious beliefs...those people are fanatical about doing so.

Mississippi?
You mean America's Most Religious State?

You mean the state that finally figured one person owning another is maybe not such a good idea after all and ratified the 13th amendment LAST WEEK?

Why on earth is anyone surprised?
