What is the difference between a "public" and "moderated" group?

I just started a group called "New England Mercedes-Benz Owners", and I was given the option to (among other things) make the group "Public" or "Moderated". What is difference? What responsibilities do I assume when I click "Moderated"?

2.If you've ANY Control Freak tendencies,Nirvana has arrived !

Public groups are like those fly traps that have rotten meat in them. Yours will be overrun by spam and bad actors and you'll quickly abandon it, screaming hysterically as you run away.

So when I become a "Moderator" of the group, do I have to approve members? How about discussions? Do "public" groups get flooded out by clowns selling UGG* boots?

*Or, as my sister calls them, "ugh boots".

Maybe. This depends on the "powers" given to you by an "Administrator", or some such title.

You may be given the ability to edit, delete, or "chastize". Again, it depends.

Sometimes. This is where Moderators earn their keep.

Been there. Done that. Have the T-shirt.

EDIT: Since you started the group and are the Mod, you can do whatever you want. Power, much?

Suggestion: If there is another person in the group whose judgement you trust, and will be around often, make them a Mod as well. Otherwise, if the group becomes popular with a lot of traffic, it can be a full time hobby.
