Now what is leaking? The exhaust!

Another rant! lol

My car leaks every fluid possible right now (another thread). And now, after having exhaust work done, I have a new exhaust leak. The large resonator was leaking. In fact, it disconnected completely promoting removal and replacement with straight pipe. The car never sounded better!! That was two weeks ago.

Now my catalytic convertor is split in two! Right at the center weld. Its a little harsh sounding, but I am not too upset. Next step will be dropping the exhaust and gutting the dang thing. Then I will try my welding skills and get it back together. May as well remove the center cat if I have time.

After a pretty event free summer, this car is turning into a pain! At least I dont have a car payment.

If I ever have to do that again...

Today I finally got a slot in to get the exhaust on my car repaired. I was surprised how little room there was between the exhaust coupler and surrounding parts. No easy task to remove the two bolts. The "blind" one spun free. I had to use a flat-head screwdriver insert piece to act as a wedge. As one would put between two gears to prevent turning. This let me unthread the rusty bolt. The other side was simple cut.

FYI, the nuts are square. The both appeared to have welding damage. Not much, but enough to hint that they may have been welded to the cast manifold at factory. I am sure if they were locked in place there would have been less issues.

But everything is repaired, the primary cat is gutted and the car is super quiet.

I salute those who do this task.

I went through this with a thermal reactor. They can be made to work, but about half-way through I began to wonder if the $1,650 cost of a new one might have made more sense.

But then, that's what they want you to think.
