He saw your boobs
Jeez, what an avalanche of tacky humor. I've never been that crazy about MacFarlane's "Family Guy." The humor always reaching for some cutting edge, exploring new ways to push the bounds of taste.
What was Seth MacFarlane thinking with his Oscars boob? | Life and style | The Guardian Much of what passes for humor on screen these days leaves me cold. I watched parts of a couple of '2 1/2 men' episodes and it was enough. Jeez it was bad. But being funny is not easy. I recall the famous last words of I forget who - he wasn't famous but his words are: "Dying is easy. Comedy is hard."

If the guy in the clip is Seth Mcfarland I found him pretty obnoxious. He really really thought he was cute too (he is but really!).

I thought MacFarlane did a great job hosting. He was funny enough, talented performer and poked just enough fun at actor's without being offensive. He definitely will host again.
I have always liked him though so perhaps I have a different point of view than the two of utes.

The Oscars are bit of a blowhard exercise - OTOH, our cinema is one of our best exports. Our movie biz does a lot to improve our favorability around the world.
Billy Crystal was the best but he's not getting any younger and is only human. Even he can't nail it these days. Jon Stewart didn't fall on his face completely but didn't knock it out of the park either. MacFarlane did have some winners - I like the one where he said something about a character who was a raging alcoholic, sort of like he will be in about 45 minutes. I thought the line about the 9 year old girl being 15 years old away from being too old for Clooney was really poorly advised. The boobs song was too frat boy. I've read that some actresses really struggle with the showing the boobs thing, and often do so only if it really is called for. I mean any talent-free porn actress can show her boobs and more. One of his lines that was funny (and probably almost accurate) was that everyone from Whoopi on down to Ron Jeremy declined the gig. If Billy Crystal calls me and asks me to take it for him I'd do it. Probably a good payday.

What can you do about a broadcast tv show that has to slough through so many technical awards, that even though most of the geek stuff has their show at a luncheon, it still feels the need to recognize things like "hair and makeup" at the big show.
BTW, if you didn't see Wreck It Ralph in theatres, you missed "Paperman" that was shown as a short before it. It's online and worth it for animation fans, mixing digital and hand drawn animation. All it needed would be stop action for the animation trifecta. |

There is a word for McFarland's 'Boobs' routine and that is 'context'.
There have been a lot of routines that were in poor taste thrown out during the Oscars. This stems from the fact that there is always an opening act, but after there there is a team of Writers behind the scene that are writing jokes on the fly. Some of them work and some of them fall very, very flat. 'Capt. Kirk' tried to warn McFarland that he was the worst host ever since Kirk was speaking from his vantage point of hundreds of years in the future. When McFarland objected Kirk showed him just why everyone said he was a terrible host and then played the 'I saw your Boobs' routine. And yes, it was terrible and tasteless. That's because it was supposed to be, and if you watch it again please note that it is over the top bad in every way including the dance routine. The actresses shown being upset in the clip were in on the joke. After that dressing down by Kirk McFarland had no choice but to remain as classy as possible. If there were no opening number like this then McFarland would have been derided as being too 'safe' in his routines. If you want safe then there is no better example than when Bob Hope would host. Everyone knew Hope could go Blue better than anyone, but it was the Oscars so he instead showed a lot of class. There is a time and a place for everything. The most offensive Host I am aware of is Rosie O'Donald at the Tony's. She told jokes on live TV that would get me banned here. And it was material like that at which McFarland was poking fun. |

At the premiere of the movie "The Producers" an audience member reacted to the "Springtime for Hitler" scene the same way as some of the actors playing the audience in the movie. He got up, said "This is offensive" and stormed up the aisle. Mel Brooks as at the back of the theatre and met the guy, who said "I am Jewish and I was in WWII" . . . to which Mel replied "Me too, but I never saw you . . . where were you?"
