Missing sailboat

Seems odd they would be 65 miles offshore on a day trip with a 4 yr old.

Exactly, 65 miles out in a sail boat is rather odd.

Perhaps they were trying to bring something/one in or out of the country?

Wouldn't 65 miles be ~10 hours of sailing on a yacht that size? Heckuva day trip.

this is even more odd, was a link on that story's page: Three years later, no sign of missing family - CNN.com

Perhaps they did not intend to be there.

Ending up 65 miles off shore unintentionally without earlier notification to the Coast Guard of a problem seems weird.

Perhaps it was intended to be a 3 hour tour...
