340MPH Mercedes

Found this in the Northern Colorado Craigslist. Too bad I can't stay above 135MPH on the way to work so I could save on gas.

WTF? There is not way that is a real ad. If so, the guy is a nut. I would LOVE to go there and take it for a test drive, with the seller, and just see how fast it can go. When he wets his pants I would finally stop the car.

The car is in Wyoming, the listing is in Colorado, the telephone is Texas.
Doesn't pass the smell test.

Torrington is only about an hour from Fort Collins. Craigslist Wyoming is state wide, and the seller probably thinks he'll get more local hits listing it on the Fort Collins one.

I'll believe 340 mph when I see it.

I do not believe the drivetrain would hold up to those speeds even if the engine were miraculously capable of turning the required RPMs to make it happen.

Speed, as most of us know, is not merely a function of engine.

Furthermore, fuel economy drops as speeds increase, not the other way around.

Would be interesting to go look at the car, just to hear the asshat give a sales pitch

Lets see a Veyron with its super slick body takes what 1,200 hp to reach 270 and some change.

But the HP required to go faster is not linear since air resistance goes up exponentially. So to push a Veyron to 340mph in theory might take like 3,000hp.

I'm guessing the poster isn't to bright...

What I can't believe...Is anyone would think this ad would be anything more than a joke! LOL!

I'd be satisfied in a W126 that could break 200 mph. That's all really. Good enough. I don't need something super fast. Speed isn't everything. It'd have to be a diesel though. Perhaps a tuned myna OM606. And some body modifications, of course.

You do not trust the ad? But the owner seems so passionate about the car...

Yeah, this is what happens when you've only ever driven an diesel, every other MB feels like a rocket ship.

"gets 35MPG if you can keep it over 130MPH. Otherwise about 22MPG at 65 MPH."

So the faster you go, the better the MPGs? Got it. Great mileage at 200MPH, $hitty mileage at 65.

This is one of the best ads I've seen in awhile. I can't imagine a fake person would include a phone number, unless of course the number is fake as well. So I thought I'd google the phone number and see what comes up. Looks like it is a real person. Maybe he used what he is selling in this ad to make his car go 340mph!
