14? I didn't start dating until I was pretty much out of highschool. Too much going on around school to ever have anything private or real during those years. Which is why I never really dated anyone from my home area for the most part. Again, everyone knows your biz and too many eyes on you. Besides, I never wanted to have to keep running into them on a regular basis.
About 25 miles away is a good range. Close enough that the driving isn't too much and far enough to have some space if you need it.

If she did something with the other guy it's safe to assume the the worst.

I remember the thread about your daughter and the response I made then. Much the same applies again. Do a lot more listening and a lot less telling.

These days many eight and nine year old girls are coming of age. Read that last line again because it is difficult for us old farts to wrap our heads around that one. Babies can have babies these days.

Some of the girls that catch your son's eye might (may) already have six years of sexual experience. Damn, I have to triple check this as I go. It is difficult for me to believe it as I relate it to you.

Don't let that boy be ignorant of what is going on around him. He could be stunted for life.

More listening, the world is not like it was when we grew up.

Too bizarre.

I avoid women at all costs. Okay maybe not all costs but I can't afford enough brain power to deal with them and school and other projects (Mercedes and more Mercedes).

OTOH, my 13yo daughter starts H.S. next year and I'm terrified of the prospect. She's an attractive girl, but quite a bit taller than the majority or her middle school classmates, male and female (5'9"), and not at all comfortable with herself. On the basketball she's a confident leader but off court she's pretty shy and lacks confidence, despite doing very well in school.

I'm ready for my boy to grow up, not so much with my little girl.
You must tell her to stop aging...

If that works, fill me in with the details, cuz I'm going to need them....

I can tell you that sticking my fingers in my ears and saying "LA LA LA LA LA" loudly has not.

This just sounds like some ranting from some daytime TV show. Really?!

I mean all the screwed up kids on Maury are only like 13-15 and they have no babies, the ones that bring 12 guys to the show for paternity testing (LOL) are always like 20-ish, surely there is nobody in America more farked than Maury contestants, aside from the ones on Springer but they have no babies because of genetic problems probably

There may be legal implications or even though there appears to be no broadcast standards there still may be some. You have to be really desparate for the buck to submit to either one of those senarios. Or the people present are just stand ins perhaps.

Watching a couple of episodes was enough for me. Screwed up people is an understatement.

As someone of the "younger" variety on here I can certainly attest that there are some girls (and guys) who get started early. Like "where do I stick this" early. I wasn't one of them, but I knew some people getting it on at a really young age. And girls pregnant in 7th-8th grade. Most the guys banging those girls were 16-17ish, many of the girls having family issues at home. YMMV.

But don't get discouraged! There are some people who aren't complete DBs who do exist, in fact I'd still place most of my peers in the non-db group.

Youth culture sets expectations for kids today that they can't possibly hope to meet without some kind of suffering. Absent any stray babies haplessly produced, they mostly get over it. My son knew how to use and had a condom in his wallet from the time he was 13, didn't need it till he was a freshman in college. My girls had frank discussions regarding personal protection starting in 6th grade. Both are beautiful, educated and sought after, neither is married or wants to be and neither has had babies. So far so good. What's that old saying? 7 Billion miracles is plenty.

I guess that is what it sounds like but I can honestly say I have never watched more than a couple minutes of one of those shows.

I have been told stories of other people's kids mostly. Also told stories by young adults who lived some of this.

Read an article recently that said somewhere around 34% of US girls have been pregnant at least once before the age of 20.

Have you noticed that the media don't mention AIDS so much anymore?

They do get the message across that you can't possibly have fun without alcohol, dancing, sex, etc. Combined with the groupthink nature of teenagers and the sheer meanness of many of them, bad things happen to good kids.

Parents enable a lot of bad behavior with a simple error. Adults favor the kids who are the best liars.

Just as an example of the extreme weird stuff I posted in this thread, this links to amazon.com where you can buy a HelloKitty vibrator/masturbator.

This has happened to me. My ex did this when i had Mono. My friend fessed up about it after one good slap to the face, which was good. Still good friends today.

She didn't get another boyfriend the whole time during high school. Girls need to learn that guys can play the "slander game" too.

Seems that as we get older (> 50), that is still the top 3 topics of conversations...
