Its a white chistmas....a little late.
Last night we had a substantial snowfall. it accumulated about 3" of wet slippery snow. The snow is lying on all the tree branches and looks breathtakingly beautiful.
It was coming down pretty heavily yesterday afternoon. I was indisposed in the back of my house and heard a loud bang out front. I immediately thought, oh no some dufus has run into my dodge truck again, so I ran (shuffled actually) to the front of the house pullnig up my breeches as I went. when I got there my truck looked unscathed but I quickly noticed a car had slid into a telephnoe pole right in front of my driveway (on the other side of the street). A young woman was standing beside it holding a toddler and talking to her passenger friend. I went out and asked if they were ok and if they needed anything. They said they were ok so I invited the woman and her child to come inside. they did for a few minutes but soon went back outside into the snow. She was upset, crying and probably in shock after getting smacked in the face with her air bag. It broke the pole nearly in two, bowing it about bumper height above the street and dislodging the bricks from the sidewalk it is sitting in. It took about an hour and a half to get it all cleaned up. (The power company came and tied a rope to the tree next to the pole so it would not fall into the street). So I got up early and took the montero out to plow. It took a lot of effort to get all the heavy wet snow. I had to plow my parking lot twice to clean it. then I plowed the alley behind our house for the tenants who rent from us back there, and five of my neighbors drives and or front walks. When I came in to eat breakfast I was feeling pretty bouyant from it all. A nice clean white snowfall is very envigorating!;) I didn't realize how much I enjoy plowing snow! |

Hmm.........you ought to see what 36" of snow does to a parking lot. NFW you can plow it with a pickup truck. Even a dump truck filled with sand cannot get sufficient traction. The front end loaders were getting $1K per hour to do the lots in CT. |

Pretty picture.
Central Howard Co it's still pretty much only accumulating on unpaved areas. |

I like snow on a Christmas card.:) we had 0.6" of rain last night, now the clouds have parted and the sun is out.
Those are pretty pictures, but glad to see it in YOUR yard.:D I have run plow trucks, Road graders to plow snow on 2 lane mt roads. exciting when your young and first time your doing it. but as the years go by, and your trying to sand the road at 3am for the commute traffic, and some impatient DA passes while your sanding, screw it. later you see some of them off in the ditch a ways up the road. :D Not fun putting the plow back on when the shear bolts break or changing a grader blade in the cold, not to mention broken tire chains, and having snow dripping down the back of your neck. I agree that with 3ft of snow, you better have something with some weight behind it to move it. I like the snow a lot better now that Iam retired.:) Charlie |
The Klan had an idea for a float titled "I'm Dreaming of a White Christmas".
Klan Seeks to Put Float in Georgia Parade - NYTimes.com Klan Seeks to Put Float in Georgia Parade Published: December 06, 1991 The Ku Klux Klan wants to enter a float in the annual Christmas parade in Gainesville, Ga., prompting several groups, including four high schools, a church and a Cub Scout den, to pull out of the event. Officials in the small town on Lake Lanier, about 40 miles northeast of Atlanta, are scheduled to meet on Friday to determine whether the Dec. 14 event should be canceled rather than allow the Ku Klux Klan to enter the float. The title of the float is "I'm Dreaming of a White Christmas." |
We got about 8" of snow before it finally petered out. It was more than enough to take Directv out at 4am...which woke me up. I had to wait 'til about 6am before the district finally closed the schools, which was about an hour before AFTER the kids woke up and got ready for school. By the time it was cancelled, they were sitting down for breakfast.
It's all melting away now...high of 42 today. |
Grass was looking green when I left my house this morning. No snow.
Light snow up here at work. Nothing major. |

This years dc/Baltimore snow disaster is turning out to be nothing more than a talking point for the media and forecasters
What a joke! I have maybe 2" of slush in my back yard on the western side of b'more, and northwest of DC. Forecasters all indicated moderate to heavy accumulation Ha Ha no such reality |
