2013 Civic Si
My girlfriend is looking into the new civic si. I personally have never worked on a honda. I know they run forever with basic maintenance, but thats about it. Anyone have words of advise? Should I sway her towards something else? She seems pretty stuck on the Si. Anyone know anything about the new Si? Please help a brother out.

My knowledge of Honda Civics stops in about 1986...
...I had no trouble what so ever with my old Civics - fantastic cars if a little boring. Here's some more modern information that might help Honda Civic 2012 - Car Review | Honest John

Next to the build quality of MB and Porsche they are the best cars out there.

They are perfect for people to whom good gas mileage and low repair costs are the most important thing there is.
They would sell even more of them if they were made out of paper mache and had consequently better gas mileage. But all of the fuel and repair savings will be utterly negated when the owner and any passenger is killed or maimed or crippled for life in a highway accident.

Not sure if she's interested in the coupe or sedan. Compare the SI with the EX & EX-L trim levels. The performance orientated SI,
while having some of it's own unique features gives up some of the creature comforts of the EX & EX-L. I can tell you there won't be much work to do in the first three years besides changing the oil & rotating the tires. Don't think I've spent $500 in almost the last 5 years on my Accord in dealer maintenance costs, but then it only has 20Kmi on it. Due for tires & it's 5 year service in a few months, so expect a nice bill then. Can't really complain though, it's had no issues. I hope to finally be able to trade or sell it later this year & get into another M-B though. Quote:

I've read that the current and past few years of Si have been a big let down.

2013 Civic Si
Outdated, bland, and they don't have the proper engine in them. What's her criteria? Why the Si?

Great car, it will run for years with just cheap oil changes.

Any evidence to support this? Do the civics do poorly in crash tests?

Just came across this today....
2013 Honda Civic Sedan and Coupe First Small Cars to Achieve TOP SAFETY PICK+ Rating in IIHS Safety |

IIHS is like, "A roll bar is better than a sharp stick"
I've gotta agree with Jim on this...
Mass (Weight) DOES matter in Car Crashes. The Whole "Safety Cage" concept does work. I.E. : Racing Hydroplanes (Some of those "Mariners" have experienced airborne crashes at over 175 mph and survived) Racing Automobiles Watch the Crash videos of this years Ooops @ Daytona, all the Drivers lived. Also watch the video of a radio controlled Smart being driven into a cement wall @ 70 MPH... The doors still opened and closed,BUT no Human could have survived the Deceleration !!! AND there's no way the Hondas have the aformentioned level of safety engineering. I'd be all over the civic if it were to be driven on Catalina ONLY (Competition is Golf Carts) But in a real life world, full of Texting Homies and Soccer Moms, True Safety is a 14 wheeled dump truck FULL of Gravel, Speed limited to 25 MPH. (All The A**H*l*S just Bounce Off) W123 300D would be her ride.

Safer than a motorcycle, and some of us ride those.

Exactly.. not like these cars are little tin cans anymore. I bet they are better than a W123 (which is not an "unsafe" car by any means) in an accident, especially considering side airbags.
