Audiophiles - Anyone Running an Outboard DAC?

I've been considering one for a future audio system and only recently noticed that prices have dropped on the converters. Anyone here have a high end DAC in their system?

Yes. I've been using a Musical Fidelity V-DAC and a Music Hall DAC25.2. Things really open up in 24bit/96kHz. It's definitely a worthwhile investment so long as you have a (proper) amp and speakers/headphones already. If not you likely won't *hear* what the DAC is doing.

I have a Kenwood receiver with a DAC inside it that I pass everything through. It also handles all the home theater surround sound signals from the PC. This is then passed out of that same Kenwood and onto bigger and better grade amplifiers...which also happen to be Kenwoods.

I'm working with a Rein Audio X-DAC with USB input. So far, I'm impressed. there's better products out there, but they also cost much, much more than this one.

I've liked the Channel Islands VDA-2 ( w/VAC-1) I got a few years back. Smooth operation and a nice sound.

I was leaning towards the Music Hall, but I will continue checking out the others.

My table has no output for a DAC. I must be missing something.

I saw this nifty piece of equipment online today...

Denon DNP-720AE Network digital music player with built-in Apple AirPlay® and Wi-Fi® at Crutchfield.com

The price isn't bad at all...$300

I purchased a LiTe DAC-AH digital-to-analog converter last year to listen to music from a hard-drive through my Carver M-400 magnetic field stereo amplifier. I looked for a while (with a limited budget) and found this little beauty which is doing the trick just fine. BTW, it only cost me about $170 delivered.

Here's a brief review of the DAC:
