Found something interesting

Ok, some of you followed one of my other threads I've posted this into. and since we have one project posted in here, I thought I'd try a Hypothetical one,

I found this 2006 FORD F350 XLT - DIESEL - MAKE OFFER ON THIS GREAT TRUCK and it's intriguing to me, this was at some point I assume an ambulance or possibly a fire dept brush truck/Pumper. if you had the money, and the need for it, What would you build on it?

Again. it's hypothetical. something interesting to talk aboot

That's actually a really good price...beds are still available from any commercial bed company. They buy the truck, swap beds for a tool box bed or something more specialized, and sell the beds for about a grand or so.

Personally, I'd build a flatbed to it with stake sides and storage drawers, add a storage box located at the front of the bed, add holes for a tent to mount in the bed, and call it the camper's special.

That's about what I was thinking. Nice wide flat bed with a drop down ramp and a built in bed winch. Some good looking stakes.

That's a 6-litre. Figure on taking to the Powerstroke Doctor in Georgia and spending close to five figures getting it updated and bulletproofed.

Hypothetical... I did not buy it as it's out of my budget, but being a late 6.0 it should have the improvements on it. though I wouldnt mind having this one. It's a nice truck

There are several issues at play here. To begin with, I remember having seen a notice on cab & chassis price stickers. It is a disclaimer, pointing out that there is no warranty when it is used as an ambulance or some other use that I don't remember. I believe the reasoning is due to the vehicle being completely loaded, and probably OVER loaded EVERYWHERE it goes. On top of this, it is an emergency vehicle so, for good reason, it is often flogged for all its worth, sacrificing itself in an effort to save human life.

All this adds up to the most demanding use that a truck can see. Couple the usage with the known track record of the 6.0, and you're not putting together a good combination of things.

Take that same cab & chassis, put a flat bed on it, maintain it properly and use it for hauling horses, cattle or construction equipment under normal conditions, and you could expect hundreds of thousands of miles as long as none of the 6.0 gremlins don't rear their ugly heads. Overload it for every single mile that it traverses and dog the crap out of it half the time, and the same chassis could easily be worn out in 100,000 miles.
