The Dems will have to take the house, hold the Senate, and have a POTUS of their ilk in power before anything like this happens.

Seeing that we only have 45 more months of the current POTUS, and the people will see through the BS due to the work of the NRA and other gun rights groups, I don't see this happening.

If the taxation of the right to own firearms comes to be as written in the story, it will be the dawn of a fight in this country the likes as we have never seen. With roughly 80 million gun owners in the nation owning over and the average gun owner owning roughly 8-10 guns each...does the government really want to stoke that fire? Hell, the number of guns owned in this country by civilians is the reason why we aren't being invaded by foreign military forces.

Like I said...I don't see this happening.

Good luck enforcing that concept if it should become law. I recall hearing B.O.'s right hand man, crazy uncle Joe, claiming he'll bankrupt the coal companies and the coal burning energy plants. I think that is slowly but surely coming true, or at least the industry seems to not be building any new stuff right now. Not sure if B.O. corrected uncle Joe and told the public he really didn't mean what he said. My guess is that the politicians need more money to fund more public entitlement projects since those promises of the "gifts" garner the votes. Might as well take away the 2nd Amendment in exchange for some votes. Sounds pretty fair to me if you're on the receiving end of the freebies.

I haven't bought a gun in a while so I am not sure if there is any tax on them. Why do you think that there is no tax on a newspaper, because of freedom of speech the founding fathers were sharp enough to never allow news to be taxed
that way the government could not silence it or keep it out of the citizens hands with a huge tax.

Did you entertain the possibility that natural gas might have something to do with the issues coal is facing?

Coal mining is still going on...much of it is being sold to China instead of being used here. All they've done is off shore the issues they were complaining about.

To some degree, absolutely. However, to make a political decision that coal is no longer a player since uncle Joe did say he will bankrupt them. Also, it is pretty clear that natural gas is a lot cleaner than coal, so it's a natural subsitute / choice. But the money that the politicians are shoveling into natural gas leaves the coal burning industry at a disadvantage, however. Many of the coal burning players are trying to update their equipment to make it burn cleaner and keep pace with natural gas, but when the tax payers are "helping" one player over another, not really sure how helpful that is in the long run. The federal government has an incredibly poor track record in picking winners and losers. Personally, I have no dog in the fight, but when the government helps determines the winners and losers, there is an incredibly high chance we all end up losers.

I am thinking that the toll which cars and automobiles place on the public through those who are careless, reckless, or just dumb is probabaly a smidge higher than guns. And, let's not forget the converse: how much of a price tag would you place on a homeowner who blows away an intruder at night who means to kill, rape, or whatever things people do to others? I would say priceless ? However, I have never seen any consitutional protections relative to the right to bear and own a car. Personally, I am thinking that if B.O. took a handful of dollars from the NRA, his "views" on "gun control" would be a lot different. What B.O. did was politically astute and he would never let a horrible incident be wasted to satisfy his voting base... regardless of how shameful it was or contrary to the consitution. Although he claims to be a consitutional scholar, he seems to gloss over much of that document through his political policies and actions.

Well then, case closed ! LOL. Too funny.

Car Crash Costs and Statistics

"In 2011, 32,367 people died in motor vehicle crashes, down 1.9 percent from 2010, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation. In 2011, 2,217,000 people were injured in motor vehicle crashes. In 2010, 32,999 people died in motor vehicle crashes and an additional 2,239,000 people were injured.", id. AND, don't forget "The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration estimates about 10 million or more crashes go unreported each year." Sounds pricey to me.

I am thinking out loud here but how many folks protect themselves or family with the right to bear arms which our current administration is attempting to take away if we pay attention to what they say? (I exclude uncle Joe who has a double barrel shotgun on the porch)

Here is a somewhat academic "paper" on gun control myths: TEN MYTHS ABOUT GUN CONTROL

I am thinking the auther has a pretty good grasp on the situation. Right now, I am wondering how many people really, really trust the federal government? And, how many people would really really trust the federal government if the "average" citizen was disarmed through taxation of firearms and ammunitiion.
