So if the 09 is free of the balance shaft problem then that's one less thing to worry about. New cars have me spoiled with all the gizmos, especially bluetooth, and I look for it. As much as I admire the older machines, I'm nervous about driving them long distances routinely with their old mechanical bits and wiring. Even the older cars at this point have electronic controls but no self diagnosis.

I love having both to be honest. I love the feel and simplicity of say the W126. I love I can work on it. I love how its easy and care free to own and drive. But I am like yourself spoied in say the new E with Parktronic, heated/ac seats, nav, backup camera, massage seats, AMG Package, P2, heated sterring wheel, illuminated door sills, bluetooth phone/music, 4Matic, blind spot system and lane assist. Also, the CL has most of those features plus more. I respect both old and new Mercedes as I not one who is stuck in the 60's and realized times do change. I love old as much as new.
Some older ones I do like more.

If yer gonna buy a used MB, get one with a good warranty, either factory or after market. If after market, make sure the warranty covers electronics and requires little or no deductible, and then enjoy the vehicle and don’t worry about maintenance.

Meh old cars are hobby's, new stuff is nice I don't have to fix it...or pay someone else a ton of money to try and fix it.

IMHO the E's are nice but for a few more bucks you can buy a CLS which is nicer. CPO is the ticket too, when it breaks throw the keys at the dealer and tell them to fix it.

Maintenance is not covered under any waranty... Only what breaks on the car is. Tires, Breaks and MB required services you pay on your own for.

If the service bothers you...shouldn't be driving an expensive German car...or buy a BMW...everything is included for the first 50k.

Toyota included free oil changes for life on my moms car, and a service is like $200....but a Rav is a long way from a Mercedes...my pickup is quieter and rides better on the highway.

That was the case for my vehicles as well. I had to pay for brakes and filters, but not much else.

Correct! You have to pay to play. There was a gentlment on my Facebook news feed who was in shock it cost him $70 to fill the tank on his Benz... I tol him to buy a Camry

I love when Toyota or any car company says the free oil changes...There is nothing more expensive then something that is free Its all inscluded in the price.

Correct! I personally love a warranty if there is one available. Its not a deal breaker but anytime I can get one for anycar I try to jump on it. You just never know with a car when something will break. Its a piece of mind really.

I'd rather buy an early 126 chassis 500sel and spend 25 grand refubishing it than have a "modern" benz at a bargain price.
My wife keeps mentioning something about wanting a car with a cupholder. I sure do love that woman.

If I wanted to come close to welding the hood shut I'd purchase a Honda Accord or CRV.
