Yep, I prepped my first car for paint when I was 13, but my Dad shot the paint. After I got out of the Army I started doing more and more. I did probably a half dozen complete paint jobs and about that many repairs back in the seventies and eighties.
In recent years I have done a little here and there. It is fun, but you have to take the right precautions, and if you want to have a good result it takes PATIENCE. Most peoples experience with their first paint job is that they think the paint will hide the ill prepared imperfections. In reality the paint brings them OUT. If I had more patience with it I would have continued doing it over the years. Congratulations to you for taking the initiative to learn. It's never a bad thing to add a new skill to your bag of tricks.

He said he learned to paint. He didn't say that he took the picture!

Took the picture with my droid...
If I wanted to shoot with DOF, I would have used my camera with a 50/f1.7
