North Korea orders missile batteries on standby...

What does that mean exactly? Missiles are in position and fueled up (assuming they still use liquid-fueled SCUDS)? Firing keys are in, ready for a button press? The Eunuch Prince is certainly making a passable imitation of a bull in a china (no pun intended) shop recently.

North Korea orders rockets on standby following U.S. B-2 drill - CBS News

Also have to ask: isn't flying bombers round-trip from Whiteman, MO to buzz a piss-ante dictatorship pretty damn wasteful? Why not station the things in Japan, Guam, or Hawaii? I'd assume that in a shooting war, they'd not be making constant round trips from CONUS.

I hate he is targeting Austin. Does he really have three missles that are reliable enough and accurate enough to hit these places? I hope it don't happen but I am glad he ain't targeting Soperton.

I think the US was just trying to tell that NUT that if he tries something, he can run but he can't hide. We can get him from just about anywhere in the world.

There could be an element of insanity in his family. Or he enjoys shaking up his own population up for whatever reason. Not a lot of common sense though. Too bad they want to carry on as his father did. He could have taken a different path.

This is not the way to improve you country in todays world. Creating anxiety in neighbourhood countries is not helpful to your economy. They wil no longer be able to count on China as well. Actually it is China that will tell them to smarten up I imagine.

Far more of a powerful suggestion than any other country in the world could do in my opinion. To ignore any suggestions from China as close as they are would be the pinnicle of stupidity.

If he's targeting Austin, you may very well have more to worry about in Soperton than those in Austin do!

I doubt that anything he fires would make it to landing. I'm pretty confident that we are watching N. Korea pretty close, and would have some time to shoot down any projectiles.

You have to wonder why they continue to posture like this. There is no doubt that if they do a first strike, their government will be bombed to goo. China is not going to help them in this circumstance. This fact makes NK look more stupid and irrelevant than usual.

Maybe they’re looking for another hand out? Isn’t that always their goal when they start to make threats??

OTOH, losing even part of Texas would not be a bad thing.

My fear isn't N Korea...I don't think they personally built the technology they are testing. My fear is China and Russia...the real suppliers.

The way I understand it, it's cheaper to burn the fuel than to operate a forward base for the B-2. The support system and staff for this plane is staggering and it's more economical (and safer) to operate from Whiteman. And in a shooting war, that's where they'd come from.

Exactly, it's logistics. Hickam AFB in Honolulu has the tankers for refueling trans Pacific missions.

There was a local article interviewing the crew of the B-2 bomber; they said flying missions was like going to another long day at the office.
Just one round trip; with sleeping quarters and galley it is quite mundane.

North Korea....that is one of those places where the pressure of reality will reach critical mass at one point, and the social change will be like a dam bursting. The people will be so embarrassed, ashamed and angry for being so duped.

I don't see China or Russia wanting a piece of this chit pie. China needs us economically as mush as we need them. Russia has enough on their plate so I don't see an up side for them. NK is a weird place. The dude is obviously nuts and trying to talk with him is like expecting a rational answer from Mason. I would not put anything past him which makes him more dangerous.

My theory is most of this is for local (NK) consumption. Trying to show the kid has mastered military affairs and international relations (and explaining why or diverting attention from no food this month). The outside part is just to begin another round of negotiations for free stuff. China does not want a whole pile of refugees running across their border if something nasty really starts
