Is the news downplaying North Korea?

This all began when I ran into a woman whose kids were all in my class years ago. Asked about them. "Sarah's married and just moved with her little girl to be with her husband who's stationed in S. Korea, they love it there, at least he's in Korea and not somewhere scary like Afghanistan." This really bothered me and I couldn't put it out of my head for the rest of the day.

I can't decide if I'm just cooking up hysterical worst case scenarios or if the news media really is downplaying the danger presented by NK's current bluster. Brinksmanship only or is the new Nutball In Chief young and inexperienced enough to really try something?

If presidential (as in supreme leader!) vehicle status is anything to go by North Korea shouldn't be taken seriously...

Honestly I believe that they are downplaying it. This is serious stuff with a nutjob who has nukes even if there is no way of them getting to the mainland US there are plenty of folks who are in danger. If he does go off the deep end what happens? What will China do?

The Nutball in Chief contacts China to secure permission to go to the bathroom. He is hardly the wild card that he appears to be.

That's certainly a tough question to answer. My thinking at this point is that IF the NK idiot starts something, they will be quenched with some pretty serious firepower, BUT there would still likely be loss of life on the South Korean side.

Best of luck for your friends husband though.

Relax people, any fool knows it is Iran who is the threat

Seriously...this isn't the ME we are dealing with, where they throw some stones, burn American flags, and go all Jihad..this is the FE, where with enough provocation, somethings gonna go Boom.

China? So far they are quiete..which is in their best interest.
IF North Korea were to cause so much mayhem that it interrupts China's cash flow (The U.S.), it wouldn't surprise me if they wiped them clean off the map.

They don't have the wherewithal to conduct a conventional war, regardless of how many poor saps are conscripted into their military. Detonate a nuclear weapon on soil outside of NK? Even the craziest bastard that rules NK would know that the amount of munitions that would rain down on his head would be unprecedented.

It would appear this is possible. I imagine John Kerry's staff and our military and the executive branch are all giving this careful attention. I do not expect O to do anything half baked. He is a careful man on big decisions like this.

I was thinking about the incident a couple years ago when NC shelled a base in SC. I wonder why the artillary installation was not taken out?

This is a one act play.

Who is to say that China is not promoting this exercise? Things get jittery, some values decline and others go up, and someone steps in to buy and sell. NK is just a vassal of China, after all.

If NK was actually going to do something destructive, why would they posture as they are?

If anything should happen, I am hoping the US goes thru the process of declaring war this time instead of "presidential exectuive use of force". Then, we should evaporate North Korea and erect a statue of General Douglas McArthur in the middle of N. Korea's capital. He was right then, and time has proven he's right now.

That's my suspicion as well.

I think China would get all grouchy if U.S. boots were on the ground so close to their border.

I guess it's nicer not to do anything if N.Korea does something (something is an attack of course) ? Now that's slick.

Or, if they do something, I guess we do what we always do and get involved without congressional action. That is slicker.
