Fleet Week cancelled due to sequester

"Stupid" Sequester Foils Fleet Week | New York Daily News

I say good, the thing was a waste of money anyway and somehow I think that the NYC economy will survive without the gov't giving squid an all-expenses paid vaca.

I have no opinion about the event one way or the other. The interesting part of the sequestor is that rather than cutting the rate of growth across the board, which would have never been noticed, he did all these HIGHLY VISIBLE cuts, so as to punish the American people in a way to draw attention to his political motives.

Shame on him.

Yeah, you're right MTU and it's been probably about 12 hours since the last time.

You DO have the documents proving that, right? Or is it just conjecture and wild guesses? Cuts have to be made. Everything you are cutting is going to have to cause somebody some pain. That is, unless you want the "painless" cuts that we have been having in the past.

Sorry, I can't buy that. They could cut 2 1/2% from the budget of EVERY gooberment agency, and except for the political squealing, no one would know the difference. What gooberment organization could NOT find a way to operate on 2 1/2 % less? There's so much fat in every one of them, that there would be a way.

In fact, what they SHOULD do, is simply cut 2 1/2% for ALL agencies this year. 2 1/2 % next year and every year thereafter until the debt is gone.

Problem is that this would cut into the politicians budgets for buying votes with OUR tax money.

They should find a way to fire 2.5% of the workers without pension, so I can buy their homes at fawk-loser auction.

So basically, you want the government to cut all departments, including military spending, yet you object to any cuts being visible or impacting anyone you know or who might complain. Your new suggestion is to trim all departments in a way that you figure your life won't be impacted and no one will notice, ect.
I have no problem with trimming all departments, however, complaining about the trimming when its obvious is silly.

This is exactly the mentality that got us into this situation in the first place. You want your cake and you want to eat it too. You want to be seen demanding fiscal responsibility, yet you complain when fiscal responsibility is visible and try and twist literally everything you don't like into some kind of evil plot by evil politicians. Give it a rest.

First, I love fleet week, I don't want to lose such an event forever, as its highly interesting getting to tour the nations navy ships. Second, on the other hand, its after all, a superfluous and highly expensive event, so in the interests of saving some cash, I have no problem with cutting it until we are in the black. I think its stupid that it took sequestration to get some of these extra things pared down, and now everyone is whining left and right about it.

Think of it this way, are you really gonna hire the elephant for your daughters sweet 16 when you are 600k in debt and without a job? doesn't it make sense to cancel the party?

Hmm.... I can't find it. Would you please help me find in what I wrote where I indicated that I did not want them cutting anything that effected me? I'll help YOU. I did NOT in ANY WAY, suggest such a thing.

Yes, I do indeed propose that ALL agencies have their budgets cut by 2 1/2%. It's REALLY difficult to see how anyone could NOT understand what I wrote.

I have managed a few budgets in my time. I can tell you that any budget managing person worth his salt can squeaze 2 1/2% out of their budget with very little trouble at all. The only time this gets difficult is if it is after several previous years of budget cutting. Given the huge amount of government fat, cutting 2 1/2% could be done without even breathing hard.

I DO like your eliminating the elephant from the party analogy though. The only problem is that they need to go WAY beyond that in their cuts. They need to eliminate the parties altogether. If folks want to go to the park, spread out their sheets and have a self funded picnic, they can have all the parties they want, but it's insane for the gooberment to fund the parties. The parties to be cut, should ALSO include Barack & Micheles hell for expen$ive golfing and other vacations. If they want to put together a convoy of their SUV's and truck over to the muny for nine holes, NO PROBLEM! Flying Air Force One at $180k per hour? Uh-uh. They and all other politicians regardless of party should be funding their own vacations.
