Czechs and Chechens

Apparently, some Americans have confused the two recently.
"After officials said on April 19th that the suspects of the Boston carnage hailed from Chechnya, angry users across America flooded social media with vulgar posts targeting the Czech Republic." Irony is that, apparently, West, TX is largely Czech-American.

Is this REALLY surprising given the sad state of our education system?

When I was young wouldn't go into a lot of stores as they had a sign "NO CHECKS"

Sadly we still see this discrimination today. I don't know of any places that will accepts checks.

Yeah, I too say "No Checks." Czechs, however, fall in a different category. If the Czech people that I used to know that grew up in West are any indication, they're welcome at my place any time.

Nathan Feinberg just can't stand his co-worker, Ho Wan Lee. There is just some animosity there, and to some extent it goes both ways.

One day walking down the hall Nathan passes Ho and "accidentally" bumps into him, causing Ho to spill his coffee and all of the papers he's carrying.

Ho says, "now what was that all about?"

Nathan replies, "That was for Pearl Harbor!"

Ho looks at him in amazement: "PEARL HARBOR?? That was the JAPANESE you idiot! I'm CHINESE!!!"

Nathan just looks at him and replies, "Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese, it's all the same to me."

A couple of days later Nathan is in the copy room when Ho walks in. Ho reaches to the top shelf for some supplies and knocks a bunch of things onto Nathan, who falls to the ground.

Nathan looks up at Ho and says, "What did you do that for, you crazy Jap!?"

Ho glares at him and says, "That was for sinking the TITANIC!"

Nathan looks at him, puzzled, and says, "What? Are you deranged? An iceberg sank the Titanic!"

Ho gives him a wicked smile and says, "STEINBERG, ICEBERG, FEINBERG, it's all the same to me!"

During WW 2 there was a Chinese area in Downtown Dallas. They were always catching grief because they looked Asian.

Finally they started putting signs in their windows saying 'We are Chinese' and advising customers that they were fighting Japan just like the US.

The entire area is gone now and was replaced with the skyscraper you see on the TV show 'Dallas', the building with the X on the sides that is supposed to be where JR has his office.

Czech: Purveyors of excellent beer. I don't know why it's so hard to find Pilsner Urquell (or any other Czech beer) around here.

Chechen: ??? Some folks from a little north of Georgia, but not like Tennessee or North Carolina. Probably not into moonshine, BBQ pork, or NASCAR.

Do you really want the kids memorizing countries world wide instead of learning reading writing science and math?
