Goodbye Cox Cable, Hello Fios
Been with Cox cable for over 30 years. The bill kept rising, and I canceled several options to keep the bill down. Finally got to where I was over $200 per month. My wife didn't want to cancel the land line.
So, today Verizon is installing the Fios bundle. TV, internet, and phone. The bill will be $108 for 2 months, then it goes to $128 for 10 months, Then it goes to $148 for 12 months. Plus I get a $100 gift card to spend. This will save me close to $2000 over 2 years. I can always go back to Cox cable in 2 years. Will I regret this move? Any thoughts from Fios users? |

Depends on what is included in the "bundle". I went with the Directv bundle. Landline, DSL and television. Seemed like a "good" deal, at first.
Quickly became a bleeding sore. A few months after we signed the agreement DTV started re-arranging channels. The shows I mostly watched either disappeared or became part of a "premium" package. Went ahead and up-graded my package to the tune of an extra $20 a month. DTV charges a fee for HDTV so that became another $10 a month per receiver. The DSL's "maximum" of 1.2 mps. quickly became an "occasional" connection of 1.2 mps. Upgraded that to the tune of another $20 a month. DTV charges a fee of $5+ for EACH receiver now so add that on. They then started coordinating ALL stations' commercials to the maximum allowed by the FCC. You know, 8 minutes of programming followed by up to 90 seconds of commercial break and up to 3 minutes at the half hour and hour break. Made most of the channels I liked unbearable to watch. Ended up getting so frustrated I dropped the television part of the package. I figured if I was going to have to watch commercials on TV then I'd just go to a free over the air set-up. I miss the "velocity" channel and some of the history channels but I don't miss the constant interruptions of the ads.

I love our FiOS service. Fast, reliable, consistent, and reasonably priced.

I have had fios for the past 8 months and I have been pleased. My only complaint is I had to keep a landline in order to get the bundle price. It was about 900 cheaper to have the landline than just get the tv and Internet. That's a cheap MB right there

We're very happy with FIOS. One thing we did to lower our bill was to change to an IP based phone instead of the traditional copper wire so that we wouldn't have to pay Federal taxes. The sound quality is the same and there are digital features that are pretty cool!

In Oct 2011 I switched to FIOS from Comcast. Triple play price was I think 89.99 per mo for two years (I am in NJ and they had just finished wiring my area, iirc). A third box and sales tax pushed it over 100.00-about the same as you. I like it. For that price I don't get any premium channels, but I don't watch them anyway. It takes getting used to new channel #'s. Internet is faster than Comcast was 2 years ago. Landline is .... pfft......for phone messages only in my case.
When my 2 year end approaches, I'm going to ask for a renewal for the same price. Nothing ventured nothing gained. I get a mailing a month from comcast. Competition is fierce in my local area. That's a good thing. BTW, back then, the installer told me that Verizon was finished installing the fiber optic cable network in NJ. Period. Don't know if that is still the case though. |

I despise bundles, but what can you do?

Thanks for the input. All hooked up now. Internet seems a little quicker to move around. Television picture is good. Telephone.... who cares, it works. Something to catch the surveys, polls, charities, and sales calls.
Yeah, what choice does one have but to get the bundle. Corporate has it all figured out. |

Well, we dropped TV out of the mix completely. When I bought this house, we told the cable company "Thanks, but we're moving out, so you can disconnect us now." Then when we moved into the new house, which didn't have any antenna, we found that we just didn't miss it. If there's something we want to see, we buy the disc. We spend much less this way than with any paid service.
We do have a landline and DSL, so I guess those are somewhat of a bundle, but I feel a phone at the house is a good thing to have, and the internet through the same company is what I would have selected anyway, so no real harm. MV |
