How Would You Handle It?

Sam and John are friends of yours. Your choice is?

That'll bite you either way, sell it to some schmuck off craigslist, and don't bother thinking twice.

tell sam to find out what the vehicle is actually worth and what John wants for it, and for him to pay that instead vs throwing out a too high number and getting fleeced. Otherwise do not get involved, that bit of common sense should be free.

IE, give him johns number, say "I know a guy whos selling one of those". say nothing about price, thats between them, and as their friend, you shouldn't be trying to skim off of the deal for 2 seconds of advice or work.

It would be another matter if sam hired you to find a vehicle for a certain fee.

I'd send both of them the same email ---- since they are friends of mine, I'd have both their emails. And tell them what they have in common; especially if they hadn't ever met.

I do this all the time on this Forum; get a request from Sam for a part; then notice a week later that John has the part.

Assuming both are actually friends I think you pass along the info and otherwise stay out of it.
In the recent gun madness I had a friend, who does excellent leather work, who had a tricked out AR he wanted to sell. About 2 years ago he'd tried and failed to get 1500 for it. He asked me how I thought he ought to sell it. I told him you'll get your 15 and a lot more right now, so he decided to ask 1800. I passed the information along to another friend who was buying ARs like there was no tomorrow. He rushed over to the first friend's place and counted out the 1800 without blinking.
The seller showed up at my place a few days later with a selection of belts and 1911 holsters and mag holders, laid them all out on the table and said put yourself a new rig together. I asked why. Sales commission he said.
Win - win - win.

Thanks. Bead blasted stainless. An '03 first generation Smith and Wesson, sometimes referred to as the "billboard" because of the large S and W 1911 lettering on the left side of the slide. These early models used all sorts of high end third party parts from Baer, Wilson etc. that you now have to pay extra for. Great buy if you can find one.

Very nice! Is that the factory finish, or did you have it beadblasted?

The poll is totally hypothetical.

Factory. It's completely stock. Other than a light trigger job, I've seen no reason to mess with it. Though it's an '03, I bought it unfired from the original owner about a year ago. My gunsmith; he buys new issue 1911s he considers worthy and puts them away. It has quickly become my favorite 1911 shooter. I'm thinking of putting a fiber optic front sight on it to help my old eyes. This is a crappy pic but you can see the "billboard" lettering. Strong opinions about it over on the 1911 forum, but nobody discounts the pistol's integrity.

So, yes or no?

If it were worth more than the 15k John was asking/also were worth more than the 20k Sam was offering, I would personally buy it, then sell it... It's business!
