To say it "fixes" nothing is probably pretty close to accurate. It can give some temporary relief from symptoms--and that can be very welcome relief. If the cause of the pain was something other than chronic arthritis.
It also attacks the joint itself, causing further deterioration. Now that may, or may not be acceptable given what pain level is tolerable, or what surgery may be tolerated.
If the shot lowers inflammation, won't it allow for better rest and rehab where the person is too painful to move it to be rehabbed?

I believe I said very nearly that same thing. Read my post and see if you don't see it this time.

Going on about 2 years since my RC surgery.

I tried the Cort shots, they just provide temporary relief of inflammation....it has no healing properties or restorative properties to damaged tissues.

I wish I had not waited so long and just had it done when I first had the shots. I wasted about 5 years or so of my life being in almost daily agony, loss of sleep and turned me into a down right bitter ******* to everyone around me. I could not lift a carton of milk or pour a glass of wine. When I lifted my arm it sounded like a Snap On ratchet wrench . It hurt and ached everyday.

If there is a tear, it will not heal by itself or magically go away. Surgery is the only way to solve it. I was scared ****less that the surgery would go awry and that's whyI put if off for so long. Five anchors later in my shoulder to repair the damage and lots of read but I can now say that my shoulder feels FANTASTIC.

I get a ting every now and then and still get a few crackles when I overdo it but I have no regrets. Get the imaging done and see what's really going on in there.
I had one of the best surgeons in the country do my work. He has worked on many major sports players and was vetted to work on White House occupants.

Sounds good. I have had enough of these sort of things if its torn I will not fool around but will get it mended asap. Aside from the little 5/8" Leg discrephency my knee and hip replacement are doing very very well. I am getting a bit old but I still heal very well!

Agreement with you, you mean. Feel free to show me the long term effects of a few shots. Predisone for a long term stint can give you a moon face and weight gain but a few weeks isn't a problem. But do tell your opinion with some science behind it.

Cortisone is incredible. I have a messed up knee (Used to be a distance runner) and got a cortisone shot. I could feel the joint freeing up in a matter of hours.

I did get a steroid shot about two weeks ago now. It is feeling very good. As long as I keep away from heavy loads in the area of injury I am ok. I can do most anything now except pushups and any sort of similar load of the shoulder.

If you are getting temporary relief while it heals, then good. but remember, repeated injections will cause permanent damage. In the case of arthritis, it really doesn't matter as the joint is deteriorating, anyway.

My wife's surgeon is VERY pleased with the work he did. he is also VERY restrictive--she cannot pick up anything heavier than a coffee cup for another little while. Therapy is just starting the therapist is under very strict orders not to be aggressive.

I don't plan to make a habit of it.

Remember to favour it for awhile and primarily use your right hand. Glad to hear it seems improved.

The stuff is not always hopeless as it cleared up a pretty irritating situation at the base of the skull for the wife with one shot. If it were proven to have no merit at all it's use would be discontinued.

I simply look at it as a less intrusive method that gets the job done for some and not for others. On that basis it is worth the gamble if the situation is not proven to be more serious.

I finally got an MRI and had it read. It seems my rotator cuff is completely not just partially torn. But I am going to put the surgery off til January when I am on medicare because it will cost me at least $1,500 to do it now with the deductible we have.
