Big gasser over much smaller diesel -- not so surprising.

A more relevant comparison would have put a 300SD against the S350 CDI, or the 6.9 against an S65 AMG. I think we all know how such a contest would end.

That was actually pretty surprising. Must have been the euro spec 6.9. The modern S-class probably does have 1000-1500 pounds on the 6.9 as well.
