Tom, it seems as if all trails are uphill, constantly, incessantly, and continually.

Yesterday the Mrs. and I sat on the porch of the cottage while a storm blew up. First came the wind, then the rain, then the wind changed directions and we were driven inside. I ended up basically watching pawn stars from about 3 pm til about 10 when swamp people came on....Oooops! time for bed!.

Heading home today. I dropped the Mrs off at one gargantuan flea market which resides at the exit for gatlinburg off I 40 and i am in La Quinta using their computer...Thanks La Quinta!

I was reflecting on the terrain here. So many hills most buildings are built on slopes tht would disaualify a site for construction in Flat indiana.....and buildings built right up to the white line on the roads. Fun stuff but fools will not be suffered gladly.

Speaking of fools, did you get to "ride" the Tail of the Dragon or Cherohala on a bike or in a fast(ish) car?

Lovely scenery around here. Friendly folks too. Lovely daughter#3 and her family is joining us so we'll prolly be hiking and so forth to beat the band. I am in Sylva at the library (a most impressive faciility in the old County government building built on the tallest mini mountain in town) using the computer.

So I'll be a bit scarce around here for a week.
Beautiful area...I've got kin all around NC and into KY. As a matter of fact, Linville, NC is named for my ancestors.

Enjoy your visit!!

I love that area. My family would always go there for our summer vacation when I was younger. We would usually camp in Cades Cove and Balsam Mountain.

I remember a scenic overlook near Gatlinburg. A sign proclaimed that it was the most photographed valley in the state, world, universe--something.
Anyway, predictably enough, almost every car stopped to take a picture of the"Most photographed valley". self-fulfilling

Its a wonderful place to visit! I'd love to design some homes for down there!

Cades cove is wonderful!

One year our suburban broke down in cades cove at the white church with the old cemetery. When the tilt bed truck came to pick it up he put it on the truck backwards and we had to ride facing backwards up the heck in the air swooping around all those turns all the way to sevireville to the chevy dealer! Queasy!
