Question Parting out vs. sellin to junk yard

Hi-

I have a 1989 560SEL with 170k on the clock that I'm thinking of selling to the local junk yard. How much do you think I'd get for it as I don't have a clue. The engine is missing badly and the transmission is pretty much toast. It's white, hardly and rust for it's age and amazing palomino leather.

Thanks!!

Part it out, then sell what remains to the jy. Maybe it will help someone keep their car running, rather than being forced to buy a new one and owe their soul to the Bernanke store.

It all depends

1) If the car is drivable to the JY then you get more money.
2) If you ask them to pick it up and tow away then you get scrap metal value.
3) If you have the space and patience then parting it out is the best but it will take a looong while. Once you are left with the carcass then ask the JY to haul it for scrap value.

You choice.

Should you decide to sell the car to a junkyard, in California, if it can get there under its own power they will give you $300-$400 - I don't know how much it is in Ks. yards...

*IF* you can do this, I'd pay $100 to you if you could first give me the tool kit and first aid kit, if they are complete, and the easily removable front console *IF* the wooden burlwood slider assembly is in good condition and all the individual wooden slats are all there and unseparated and the round head key for the lock is included, the yard only needs the key for the ignition. (pm me if interested, I will pay postage of course).

But if you have the time and room to part it out, google "www.benzworld.com" and register for its forum, http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w126-s-se-sec-sel-sd/ and go to the "w126" sub forum and its parts for sale section, and you will have a huge number of folks with those cars needing parts for your car. You could likely strike some satisfactory and profitable parts sales.
For instance, body parts, euro parts, a fuel distributor (new mb fuel distributors cost $2800 at the dealer), etc.

Good luck with your decision...
