He passed on April 16th, I seem to recall some reference to it on a program but it didn't sink in.

A life well-lived, indeed. Terrific singer, very devoted husband and father and a man after God's own heart. I imagine his singing has only improved, and his audience is now much larger.

Downside is that all the sinners he was singing to won't be able to hear it anymore.

He was a gospel singer. There were several songs that he could sing to the level of putting tears in your eyes. He had a very deep, extremely well controlled voice with an unbelievable tone.

I think he traveled alot with Billy Graham.

A preacher that preached at the Revival, Mr. Arnold, is 99 and still preaching. He can only preach about 15 minuets, but that is a well spent 15 minuets.

I heard this 1969 Neil Diamond song on the Sirius radio yesterday driving the new BMW to Sacramento and thought of you, my good man!

This could very well have been in Kentucky, I thought...

A rich soaring song, I hadn't heard it for 10-20 years at least.

Good stuff! Do you remember it?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X3FQGWhortk

Hot August night
And the leaves hanging down
And the grass on the ground smelling sweet
Move up the road
To the outside of town
And the sound of that good gospel beat

Sits a ragged tent
Where there ain't no trees
And that gospel group
Telling you and me

It's Love, Love
Brother Love's Travelling Salvation Show
Pack up the babies
Grab the old ladies
Everyone goes
Everyone knows
Brother Love's show

Room gets suddenly still
And when you'd almost bet
You could hear yourself sweat, he walks in
Eyes black as coal
And when he lifts his face
Every ear in the place is on him

Starting soft and slow
Like a small earthquake
And when he lets go
Half the valley shakes

It's Love, Love
Brother Love's Travelling Salvation Show
Pack up the babies
Grab the old ladies
Everyone goes
Everyone knows
Brother Love's show

(sermon)

(Halleluja) Brothers (Halle, halleluja) I say brothers
Now you got yourself two good hands
And when your brother is troubled you've gotta
reach out your hand for him 'cause that's what it's there for
And when your heart is troubled you've gotta reach out
your other hand, reach it out to the Man up there
'Cause that's what He's there for

Take my hand in yours
Walk with me this day
In my heart I know
I will never stray
Halle, halle, halle, halle, halle, halle, halle

It's Love, Love
Brother Love's Travelling Salvation Show
Pack up the babies
Grab the old ladies
Everyone goes
Everyone knows
Brother Love's show
Amen

Of course I've heard that song Jim. Even if my wife weren't a Niel Diamond fan when I met her and still is, I would still remember that song.

One of the great early Neil Diamond songs from when he could still hit the high notes. Always a favorite of mine.

The preacher where I attended for about ten years is 93 now. He STILL preaches a full sermon every Sunday. THEN on Monday morning, he and his dog get in the pickup for a 70 mile one way drive to his Ranch across the river in Oklahoma where he takes care of his cattle. Then drives back Wednesday afternoon.

When he was in his late eighties, his bull went crazy and tore up his corral. This was in August in 100 degree heat. I asked what he did and he said he rebuilt the corral, because he had no choice.

He started preaching in the late thirties. About five years ago, he got snowed in at his Ranch and couldn't make it back for Sunday service. In the course of conversation he told me that it was the fourth time he had ever missed preaching on Sunday during all that time.

Seventy plus years and missed four times. Not many people with that kind of devotion.
