Can we talk Bread here?

I was at wall world a few weeks ago, and I found something called Everything bread. It was the best bread I have ever tasted. Any one here ever tried it?

Ever tested or ever tasted? It's factory bread. It won't help your blood sugar even a little bit. Have you ever thought of baking your own? Sourdough isn't very hard. Are there no bakeries in your area making fresh bread? How many of the following ingredients do you recognize as human food?

"Enriched Flour (Wheat Flour, Malted Barley Flour, Niacin, Ferrous Sulfate, Thiamin Mononitrate, Riboflavin, Folic Acid), Water, Yeast. Contains Less Than 2% of The Following: High Fructose Corn Syrup, Salt, Soybean Oil, Baking Soda, Sodium Aluminum Phosphate, Dough Conditioners (Datem, Ammonium Sulfate, Calcium Sulfate, Ascorbic Acid, Enzymes, Potassium Iodate, Azodicarbonamide, L-Cysteine Hydrochloride). Everything Topping: Salt, Dehydrated Garlic, Dehydrated Onion, Poppy Seed, And Sesame Seed. Contains: Wheat, Soy."

Bread? What's that. Only time I eat it is when I'm at a French restaurant!!

I'm cutting down on bread to lose weight. I love good bread though. The great harvest bread has no preservatives in it and will mold in about a week if not kept in the fridge. The store bought bread takes about a month to mold so it has some pretty serious preservatives in it.

Five minutes of work adding about 5 ingredients into a bread maker and you have a heavenly French bread. Making it is easier than going to fetch a load of bread.

If you eat bread daily, it might be worth it to make your own so you can flavor it as you wish. OTOH, if I made bread, I'd either have to schedule when I have bread or be throwing it away. I might eat a slice or two or three today and not eat it for a week or two so it would be a waste for me to make my own. Basically we buy a loaf (wish it could be a half loaf) every time we feel like having bread. 5 mins away from Wal*Mart and no waiting to eat or having to freeze it. If frozen, I really don't like to nuke it to get it warm since that seems to dry it out.

I avoid anything made with wheat, sweeteners, vegetable oil, caffeine or alcohol. Factory dairy products are pretty much suck also.

I wish I was better at it.

I did 60 pushups yesterday, 15 at a time. I want to do 60, 20 at a time. I'll keep that up for a while.

Down from size 38 pants to size 32 pants in about two and half months without losing weight. Hope I can still convert more fat to muscle.

The Swede 06-17-2013 10:36 AM

Why do you cut caffeine?

You are not converting... Just losing fat and gaining muscle.

elchivito 06-17-2013 12:51 PM

I don't get the caffeine either. It's thermogenic, increases metabolism.
Fat weighs less than muscle no weight loss is to be expected.

Billions of dollars in yearly sales blurs the line between marketing and science. I don't believe that any product with caffeine is a better choice.

For me, coffee is a gateway drug or trigger to the worst foods that I eat.

If you read about theophylline and caffeine it might scare you, did me.

One definition of pharmacology is the study of the interaction of chemicals with your body. Modern food is so chemical laden it blurs the line with pharmacology.

I am sure that eliminating or nearly eliminating caffeine is a step in the direction of living a longer, healthier life.

The wife was insistent for years on making her own bread. It was really good and consistent from batch to batch. I asked her how she managed the consistency. She said basically a simple straight forward formula.

Eventually her wrists started to act up.. I suggested we start buying bread then. Just telling her that imagine how bad your life would be if your wrists got so bad you could not hug me. :D I forget her response to that as this was many years ago but it probably was a classic. To say she gives as good as she gets may be an understatement.

I basically cut out bread out of my diet, but find it hard to eliminate wheat entirely.

Son works at an artisanal bakery and brings home awesome bread all the time. I pretend to take my share, but feed it to the chickens and the goats.
I've discovered a low carb tortilla made by La Tortilla Factory that actually tastes half way decent. Only 6 net carbs and lots of fiber instead of the 30-40 carbs in a typical white flour tortilla. I eat 3 or 4 a week. That's all the bread I get. I just got my annual blood work back. Hb1AC is down about half a point, back into normal range, and I didn't give up beer.
Factory bread is about as poisonous as factory meat I figure.

Why would anyone want a longer life? so you can spend more time in a nursing home or even staying at home watching your body lose more and more of what it was and try convince yourself that you are still able to do what you want? I am 45 and know the body isn't what it used to be when I was 20. When I am 65, it won't be what it is now. How much longer till I see more and more of a decline?

Never heard of it. My favorite is "Dave's Killer Bread."
