NY man who says 4 kids vandalized home is charged

Up is down & down is up....

" A man who says he caught four boys vandalizing his father-in-law's home has been charged with child endangerment after corralling them in a closet until police arrived."

Yup...He had no right to detain them. However...his crime is light compared to theirs. A good defense atty will make most of it go away.

What a big bunch of shyte. He did those kids a huge favor that evidently the kids parents weren't willing to do, teach them something about proper behavior. I agree that the guy went too far, but he was the victim in the case and over reacted.

What the little shytes need is being bent over and a razor strop wore out on their backsides. If they were getting raised properly, it wouldn't have come to this.

The little thugs need some SERIOUS attitude adjustment.

BTW, are the parents of these little punks going to pay for the damage?

I hope the parents are sued and burnt bad enough by it that they will be going to their sons for some discipline.

It appears to me there were five children involved in this jackpot, not four.

Was that what your father did to you Larry? How did that work out? You better ask JP to give you the Good Parent Seal of Approval on that idea.

Now you're really being funny! The parents will sue that closet case hero of yours for an amount well in excess of the sum of damages to the house.

After reading the story, ( yes I did read it ) I'd say he's in one big pile of doo-doo.

No way of knowing the sort of area where this happen but the house may not even be worth 40K in some markets. Did he have someone appraise the damage or was that his eyeball price?

Sounds to Me like it is a let us make a deal time. Both/All sides drop charges against each other.

And, fear of punishment; if not actual punishment by Parents can work just as it did in the Past (how many thousands of Years?) with Me; and kept Me out of any serious trouble.

Nothing the Government or Physiologist have come up with is as effective as the Parents taking an active interest in disciplining their Children.

Held till the police already called arrive is a crime? His knowing them already is an issue though I agree.

If he did not know them is a citizen restraining them leaving the scene of a crime illegal until the police arrive?

It wouldn't hurt those kids to learn at some point that trashing other people's property might net a rough hand or two on the shoulders. If the homeowner comes out worse financially on this than the parents of the vandals would be a miscarriage of justice all right.

On a side note, when my old man built houses, he went out of his way to be cordial to young punks in the neighborhood as it was well known that the little ****s don't need a lot of motivation to come back after hours and commit mischief.

Too bad NY isn't a Castle Doctrine or even better, a Stand Your Ground state...
Then he could have just wasted the punks and been done with it.

The wife and myself go out of our way to keep kids on the good side of us. Not by necessity either yet still it has an upside in many ways. The cookie jar is always open and not abused at home and the cottage for example.

I even pick up certain types of toys at yard sales like quality scooters, bikes etc and let them have access to them.

This week I will recondition another scooter.. The replacement inner tubes are sitting on the cars dash as I type this. Kids can hit back in many ways if not dealt with decently.

I all too well remember cranky grown ups in the neighbourhood when we were very small. Although we never trashed their property. On the other hand we never went out of our way for them either. They were just miserable people from our viewpoints.

Damn straight! Waste them little bastards before they mess with my stuff.

Oh, and thanks for taking care of that for me.
