Cheney can't be a "war criminal" 'cause his side didn't lose!
I believe Uncle Adolph said something along the line of, "The victors write history". He might have been quoting somebody.

Personal attacks aside, the OP posed an interesting question.
Is there a hero here, at all? The "whistle-blower", possible Chinese spy? The administration doing the spying?-their defense is that "it works"--they claim that the spying makes us more secure--as if trading Rights for security is a good thing. Nope, no heroes here at all--just political animals playing the game of politics. Since when is getting good results ever been an acceptable legal defense for doing something illegal, or unconstitutional?

Cheyney also saluted Obama for picking up where he and Bush left off and, in effect doubling down on these secret monitoring programs. I think what we have in Edward Snowden is just a narcissistic young man who has decided he is smarter than the rest of us.
I don't know what he is beyond that, but he is no hero. If he has a valid point -- and I'm not even sure he does -- he would greatly help his cause by voluntarily coming home to face the consequences. Traitor, or not, spy or not--Snowden did us a great favor by revealing the extent of the surveillance. Saying it started under Bush is no excuse.
Saying all they have is phone numbers and times of calls still allows them a great deal of info. Someone wrote a pretty good piece about that, but I don't know enough key words to search it out. He said things like--you got a call from your doctor, and immediately called the AIDS hotline--think they don't know anything?

The irony here is this is the kind of stuff you expect to hear about in China or N. Korea, yet Snowden will likely end up in China to escape extradition. It seems we try so hard to set ourselves apart from these oppressive regimes; yet, we are so similar when it comes down to the basics.
Frankly, I'm begining to believe the Brits (and most other Europeans) have a lot more freedom than we do in the U.S. At the very least, they hold their elected leaders a lot more accountable than we do here.

Hey, move to Canada. We have our own little scandle going on right now. RCMP looking into it going right to the very top. Should be interesting.
We are tollerant here. Just not that tollerant. |

I am not comforted by that realization. I wish more of my fellow countrymen understand, and cared--instead of watching the latest reality TV.
