Back in a Benz!

After 7 years of craziness including college, graduation, getting a job, buying a house, getting married and all kinds of other craziness, I finally am back in a benz, and thus back on this site. Used to have a '78 450SL (which is sitting at my parents house) until it died on me during a 600 mile trip (old house in San Diego to dorms in Berkeley, then gf's house in Roseville). Haven't driven it since, but picked up a black on black GLK250 Bluetec. It's boring on the highway, but I haven't driven anything as fun as this around town.

Really up to my parents... It is/was their car and they're letting it sit/decay. I think they're going to try to sell it at some point, I guess it was just the distributor that went bad.

Sell the soft-roader (ulp!)
Buy and fix up real car from parents. Enjoy driving it.

Not necessarily in that order.

220 bhp, 270 torque, 4400 lbs, 12 mpg
vs.
200 bhp, 370 torque, 4200 lbs, 34 mpg

Oh yeah and panoramic sunroof, satellite radio, HK sound system, power seats, AWD, etc.

I think I'm going with the latter...

really though, we had a subaru impreza that we put through it's paces (it survived a 50 ft winter on the summit, went through 2+ ft of unplowed snow, etc.). Our boss recently got us a new 328i, so we needed something SUV-like to haul our puppies while still getting good gas mileage.

How time flies and welcome back!

What kind of boss is that, buying you a brand-new BMW? Are there any opening? I'd be happy with 2-year-old 328i wagon with a 6-speed manual, thank you for asking .

I do kinda work my ass off for him... last year during our busy season I had a total of three and a half days off in eight weeks (day and a half I was sick, another was the 4th of July, and missed one more) and I was pushing 74 hrs/wk.

I take care of him, he takes care of me...

I test drove a GLK250 the other day and I was VERY impressed with that engine. That is the engine that should have been sold here in the states from the start! (I was always hugely disappointed with the GLK350......)

Great choice!

For 74 hr/wk, I'd rather drive an old rattletrap, work 35 hr/week, and take four weeks off to enjoy myself. WTF is the point of a BMW if you have no time to enjoy it -- unless you plan to take all you can from him, walk away one fine morning with zero notice, and take a year or two off.

Slavery with an expensive bauble on wheels is still slavery. I'm a hard worker when I want to be, but I'm not so much of one that I care to make a job my life.

Meh... I get paid enough to keep me there and I actually enjoy my job. We're pretty well taken care of.
