What are the possible side effects of meloxicam (Mobic)?

Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.

Stop using meloxicam and call your doctor at once if you have a serious side effect such as:

chest pain, weakness, shortness of breath, slurred speech, problems with vision or balance;
black, bloody, or tarry stools;
coughing up blood or vomit that looks like coffee grounds;
swelling or rapid weight gain;
urinating less than usual or not at all;
nausea, upper stomach pain,...
The way the wife learned her pharmacology is to repeat all these symptoms from head to toe. They are all the usual boilerplate warnings. Certain drugs have special effects but they will toss them all out to CYA. So am I going to be worried? Probably not. You can toss all of these out for say Viagra and just remember the unique point of Viagra which is it gives you blue spots sometimes. Basically name everything from the top of your hair to the sole of your feet and you'd have given all the necessary warnings.

Condolences to you and your family. I lost my wife to ovarian cancer. She was 43 at the time. Doctors would not put a time limit on her but research showed stage III-C ovarian cancer had a 5% 5 year survival rate. My wife lasted 3 years after diagnosis and almost beat it. She was in remission for about 6 months but it came back with a vengeance. She was very brave, never complained and was much stronger that I ever could have been. Our kids were 14 and 16 at the time. Very hard on them but life did, indeed, go on.

It saddens me to learn of this because my family has been through it a few times and it brings back memories. It is hard to lose a family member and harder when the loss will take a while and rob the family member and the entire family a little bit almost every day.

I recommend that all in your family participate in grief counseling, even if it is only reading a book on the topic. It is way, way better to learn how grief works than to just ride it out.

Take cues for how hard to fight from your uncle. He may want to fight it and he may not. Some are driven to fight and others are not. Don’t push but do what you can to make his remaining time, as comfortable as possible.

Most in the family tend to get very cranky through this kind of terribly sad event.

My father went is down at the hospital with my uncle, helping him out with the discharge paperwork.

He had surgery yesterday to have a catheter put in for chemo. He is still going to solicit the opinion from other doctors next week, but in the mean time is prepping for the long (and quite painful) road.

He hasn't yet figured out how to tell his two kids the news, so they don't know. His wife is still off doing her own thing, and has only checked in twice since he got out of surgery.

*sigh*

BTW - he is only 45!

I will pass along some of the suggestions that were mentioned here, as well as an article that was posted a while back about cancer and cannabis.

Sick. If she doesn't love him, at least she should have some respect for the sake of the kids. Hope she burns in hell.

If smoking marijuana is not your uncle's thing, there is such a thing as synthetic THC pills. When my son went through his chemo and subsequent stem cell transplant, he took that and it really helped with the nausea. I believe the name of the pills he took was "marinol". A google search could find other brands/names of the same type of pill. FYI- medical marijuana is NOT legal yet in my state (NH) but the marinol pills were. Thought I'd throw out another option for your uncle and family to look into for him.

Wife our running around and serious cancer are a mix that I probably could not handle very well either. Probably would really impact my fairly easy going disposition to say the least.

This has to be a very sad situation. Either situation is bad enough on it's own.

Sounds like an intervention on the wife is necessary. He ought to give your dad medical power of attorney.

Yes, the kids today are so stupid they won't know the difference. Sure. Lets make a show of caring. Let the kids walk on eggshells. Sounds good to me.

Maybe it is better that the kids see what is real instead of an act of caring?
