Cancer...

Sucks.

Don't know if anyone caught my post last week regarding my uncle, cancer, and his wife cheating....

But he had surgery last week to remove the part of his stomach that was cancerous. They did a biopsy on the stomach, as well as some additional tissue samples, to find out what exactly was going on. Well, fast forward to yesterday when he got the results of all the testing... :(

Terminal. He's been given 6 months without chemo and 12 with Chemo.

I've never been in this situation, and I am at a loss...

WOW! Very sorry to hear it. He and everyone around him are about to undergo some serious testing.

Very best of luck with it.

spdrun 06-20-2013 12:42 PM

Just because some shaman in a white coat says he's terminal doesn't mean he'll actually die in 6-12 months. Do your research. 2nd and 3rd opinions. Cancer treatment and chemo protocols have advanced a lot in the past decade and a half.

Don't just give up because some doctor chooses to play G-d with you, ask questions, and be aggressive. My parents' neighbor's daughter was also diagnosed with invasive stomach cancer. 10 years ago, she was given two weeks, and she's still here.

Sorry to hear man :(, all the best

Really sorry to hear that - there is always hope though, and if you haven't already, do what spdrun suggested. I wish you the very best.

There is always hope. People who give up hope, die. If he has the resources to stand and fight, go for it. Never give up, get other opinions, and make the last few months count.

If you're terminal then the first thing to consider is "quality of life"...
Chemo is a poison and after every round you get weaker and sicker...

Been there, done that with both my parents and myself...

Do some research...Google "curcumin with bioperine", basically an Indian spice with black pepper.

Extensive research on it's efficacy was done by Dr. Agarwal at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston.

Now the Government is going after him just like they did to Dr Burzynski..
If you want a real "eye opener' watch this movie:

Watch Burzynski Online | Netflix

8 grams of curcumin per day reduced cancer in Agarwal's studies...
I take 4 grams a day and refuse any prescription meds.
Does it work?...For me yes, betting my life on it...

Brand I take is "Doctor's Best...Curcumin C3 complex with Bioperine"
Available at Amazon 1000Mg x 120 tablets for about $42.00..

Chemo kills everything including the patient...;)

Very sorry to hear about this. Is he dealing with only one doc, or has he sought out a second opinion?

With so much happening in Cancer research, about the only reason someone dies from it is cost or lack of courage...IMHO.

SwampYankee 06-20-2013 01:35 PM

Very sorry to hear that, Justin.

I agree. I've seen both sides of it.

Nothing to do with "courage" or "cost"...

More the standard protocol of poisoning the body with chemo and burning it with radiation...

Watch a chemo nurse put on nitrile gloves so the "medicine" doesn't burn her skin...

100% ! About 15 long years ago my then 11 month old son had a cancereous tumor the size of a grapefruit on this liver ... the worst of the worst, hepatablastoma. Prayers, tears, and the "best of the best" in the medical community. A lot more prayers, tears, and a 2nd opinion, and a miracle and gift from God, and truly the best at Johns Hopkins and he's about 3 inches taller than me right now, pushing 16, and he certainly knows more than me. He had the chemo which was necessary, BUT get the A Team on this, and do a full blown assault on the cancer. It can be beat and nothing is over until one stop fighting. I will start the prayers from the Palmetto State. God Bless and good luck !

I had a client with cancer (of the lympnode or something). She was given a few months to live -- this was about 5 years ago. She shunned western medicine and got into Chinese medicine and Tai Chi and she claims that it extended her life.

Then again, Steve Jobs in his final days said that he wished he had not shunned western medicine.

The answer is up to your uncle.

I take the same Curcumin. 3 morning and 3 at night. I have gone from taking 6-8 ibuprofen a day for back pain and at least one serious gout episode a month to NO gout in over a year and NO use of ibuprofen. Headaches from arthritis in my neck are a thing of the past.
Fortunately my internist is savvy and supports it. If it's helping keep the big C away, so much the better.

Good luck to your uncle. Doctors are mechanics, not gods.

Cancer is decimating the contractors I have worked with forever. My favorite electrician/ AC repairman has it in his lungs and it does not sound good.

Another company that does my Steam work and misc plumbing the Owner and his wife both have (I hear) terminal cancer.

All of these folks are really nice, honest, hardworking people with families.

It is tough and seems so unfair in so many cases.

iwrock 06-20-2013 04:30 PM

He is getting released from the hospital tomorrow, and is going to seek other opinions next week.

My Grandma (who is a retired doctor, and has been by his side this entire time) agreed with their prognosis.

He is going to fight it, but at this current point, it looks grim. :(

I spoke to my father earlier, and he is going to have a sit-down with my uncle to help him plan/work through this.
