"Safe" generally is a code-word for "wealthier." "Wealthier" means "more fun stuff from people from less nice neighborhoods to steal" and "rich entitled folks with their guard down."

Violent crime may be lower, but bet you that "safer" neighborhoods are fertile ground for property crime.

For me "safe" is a code word for "safe".

.........you know, yesterday when I spent seven hours installing the HU in the 300SE, I misplaced my small bit of solder that I had to have to finish the job. All the 22 connections were soldered and utilized heat shrink tubing.

Damn thing walked away from me for nearly 30 minutes before it decided to finally return.

..........getting old sucks..........

When your cars and machinery is outside of the garage, it's usually just a matter of time until they get broken into or vandalized. You have to accept these items being at-risk whenever they're out of your sight, and every night. I hate having anything out of the garage, but them's the facts about it.

Some years back I drove from Denver to Tulsa non-stop (except for gas at the QuikTrip on the north side of Wichita) and during the trip my Sony radio/CD quit. It was still getting power, but it just up and died.

This was an older Ford and I was upset because the radio had been so hard to install due to the time needed to take the middle of the dash apart. But it would have to be done to replace the radio.

I got home and it was pouring down rain. It was 2 am or so, so I ran into the house and left the car outside and unlocked. I was too tired to mess with it.

I came out the next day and someone had removed the radio. Nothing was torn up. They had likely spent at least an hour removing the thing.

So that part of the job was done for me! I wonder what they thought when they tried to hook up the radio and all it did was BUZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzz!!!!!

Sad - I remember we used to keep keys in ignition so we would always know where they were.

Keys left in cars and your homes left unlocked when away where common here in semi rural Nova Scotia till perhaps ten years ago. Not much happens locally even now but the past is gone. We lock the newer cars and the house when away now.

In thirty five years in this house we have had one bicycle removed from the front yard. One self propelled lawnmower liberated by an out of town road construction flagging crew. Plus a few things removed from one car.

We also lock the house before retiring for the evening as home invasions are growing in society. The dogs might discourage them at our house as well. Or at lest further moderate the risk although very small at this time.
