They're doing it up here too. Trying to get rid of cars in MY BACKYARD. Asked when we were going to trim the weeds. Distgusting use of power and they cry about how understaffed they are. I think they should lay a bunch of them off if they have nothing better to do.

Agreed. No surprise it happened in Jerkwater, PA either. Most civilized places would just cut the grass for him and add it to his property tax tab (to be paid in the event of sale and/or foreclosure). Gross violence to collect what is at worst a civil debt is just a retarded idea.

Personally think there's more to it. Perhaps the lucky family annoyed a member of the board of selectmen or someone in power wants them to move so they can pick up their home cheap. This smells of someone going over and above the call of duty to harass. Glad they got it on video so those responsible end up hung up by the nuts and sued into bankruptcy.

PS - wonder if it would be legal for them to hose their yard down with Roundup then pave it with gravel.

It starts at the top. Proper leadership in this country would prevent this sort of thing from becoming more and more common.

They don't wear jackboots and they don't goosestep, but they're the same.
That 'government fearing the people thing'..... Jefferson's view is actually a bit more complicated.

When governments fear the people, there is liberty...(Quotation) - Thomas Jefferson Encyclopedia

More on the Subject

Ms. Edwards -- who owns several rental units on Maple Avenue with her partner Ronald Cotyk Jr. -- was cited with "failure to maintain property" in September 2010 after a neighbor complained about uncut grass and a sizable Rose of Sharon plant, she said in an interview this week. Mr. Cotyk received the same citation, court records show.

Ms. Edwards said she and Mr. Cotyk maintain the yards the best they can, but she is being treated for ovarian cancer. Since she's fallen ill, she said she has paid workers to maintain the yards of her six rental units in Turtle Creek.

She said she and Mr. Cotyk buy boarded-up houses and renovate them as rentals.

Ms. Edwards never responded to the citation, so an arrest warrant was issued, a staff member for District Judge Scott Schricker said. A hearing is scheduled for July 10, and Ms. Edwards said she has had the grass cut and plans to plead not guilty.

No excuse for the piggish behavior of the pigs, but I wonder how many times they were served and in what manner -- also, was the initial citation sent to their home address, or to the rental property itself?

I'm betting the latter, since that's where the cops went. Who wants to bet that the couple never got the initial citation, and the cops went apecrap over something that could have been handled in a civilized manner?

If they're willing and able to go after somebody over a failure to appear stemming (no pun intended) from some uncut grass, that PD is in need of a funding cut.

Even in my overzealously patrolled town, that warrant would have sat until the wanted individual got pulled over for something.
