Ahh--so special to be riding around in one of the Generals better contemporary vehicles.

Old beat up silverado pickup, How do I love thee? let me count the ways.

I love the fact that its not much more than a mild revise of the 88-98 pickups. When they were introduced, the critics were complaining that it was so much like the 98 and earlier trucks------ Yea, well they had to whine about something to have a comment. Me YESSSS.
Excelentee! so much like the earlier--- Just where they want to be!!!!!

I love the wide bold look-- slightly wider appearing that an 88.

I love the twin pipes sticking out from under the rear bumper and the Quiet rumble from the 4.3. You cant really tell its a v6, a kid next door has a sierra with the 4.3 and some flowmasters on it--it sounds ridiculous.

I love the overdrive --but not the sometimes leaking seal front seal have to redo.

I love the frontend, so similar to the earlier, it is perfect fodder for the custom tricks we used on them a smooth grill shell/ billet grill, smooth bumper cover with accompaniing airdam w the monte carlo SS driving lights would all work easily. ( but I got different ideas)

I love the rack and pinion steering-- a noticable improvement over the old box always used before.

I love the operating cost, this big pickup costs the same to operate as the typical diesel w123, only slightly more than my 85.

I love the 8 ft bed. A pickup is meant to haul stuff and not sorta be able to, guys that want a 4 door pickup and a 5.? bed-thats their thing I guess, But I mean buisness when I have to fetch.

I love how reasonable priced whatever i have needed is for one of these- craigslist turns up whatever at dirt cheap prices-- I dont have to do a skinflint routine to get the stuff, its already no haggle priced.
Another thing I love about these is the leaf spring eye OVER the bracket design -been that way since 88 too. They are soooo simple to drop the ass of these. you simply strech the shackles. I've done this dozens of times, I had some spare shakles and cant believe I didn't bother last fall when I got it. Usually I was doing installations with the store bought kits at f/x-which I dislike because of the loong straps that are designed to fatigue and crack/break. The ebay $38 type are all originating from --over there and arrive on container ships- I avoid these. So I just cut two and fried together with the ones removed from the truck. The max you can get this way is 2 1/2 " drop, Perfect. Takes the stink bug stance right out of the work trucks with the tow package. if you didn't have a spare set of shackes,, you could just cut straight across and bend some 2.5 or 3" strap into a c shape and add into the middle, reinforce with a little plating as desired.

The old wheels with the wierd spoke ends have got to go elsewhere. I dont like trying to keep those nooks clean of break dust so I clik'd on the purchase for some 18" CC texas editions from a few trs back, (plus sizing the same height tire is a 265 60 r18)
what the hey- worry about paying myself back later.

let the good times roll......

Ive been both pattern tool maker and production body man before working for others, It finally became clear that situations beyond my control made it--Not a gO dEAL to sell my labor (or ideas-for peanuts) to others anymore around here, now.
Someone employing people could EASILY make a pro bodyman out of a tool maker - the other way around - damn near impossible.

Every US FS pickup built today is built Wrong. The bedsides are WAY too high for their intended use. Pickups are meant for the guys to hang around the bed, leaning on, and drinkin a few beers. Theres not really a worst one - they all are about a ft too high.

Any pickup built after 1973 with a stepside bed is a girls pickup. Dont ask me why- thats just the way it is. The only exception may be the 1978 lil red express truck from dodge-- the fastest production truck ever at that point. Later the 1993 dodge was revolutionary in turning around their pickup buisness, but the real killer appeared in 2003. With those beautiful smooth muscled sidelines, and the over-the-top chrome clad 20" fat 5 spokes--not only did they hit it out of the park....... they smacked it clear across truckville! The most prominent thing about the new ram was the Big Rig grill on the thing.

Everyone here has seen this thing supersized in their rearview mirror, the same way old benz diesels naturally attract the skinflints everywhere here, the rams always----------Almost Tom attract the pecker heads with the small sausage syndrome.
Ridin your tail --its their way of sayin "yea pal. matter of fact I DO own the road..... we can do this the easy way or.........

Their facelift a few yrs later added less attractive headlights and grill--for changes sake. The last change they switched back to a somewhat attractive grill and headlight design but the smooth sides got revamped with crisp lines, and avalable --"rodlockers" in the tops of th bedsides. Im sure these a-wholes wouldn't keep their pump shotguns there, thats not within reach. The current porker damn near tips the scales at 6000 lbs -- the heaviest 1/2 ton on the market.

Yep, because yuppies want a jacked up tough looking truck to drive to work in.

Lower beds are also easier to load...for those of us who use a truck as a truck.

Yea,, i have been holding off on the hate for the 03 up resyle silverado with obvious incestuous avalanche / and aztek DNA. Even worse is the 07 up. Dont take it personal - but im sure ill get around to it.

Your recent thread about _ tradin up_ for the 07 truck your sub contractor has, I have specific sentiments for those boxy $%^&^%^$%%VVv that ill maybe go into.

Aint been a decent lookin silverado since 02 , period.

My 05 is pretty much the same truck with a different grille, it was carried to 07 and called the classic that year.

I don't like the newer version because its to heavy. I scaled my uncles 11 and it was about 400 pounds more than mine. Which is what I felt when I drove it.

The 14's while ugly seem to have addressed this, so I'll see how they look before doing anything.

Can't drive the 05 forever.

If you would just mantain it as well as that lwb w126 you had ---you could almost drive it forever--or til the saltwater made it disintegrate up there
