Not true off-roading, but I did take a Fiat 500 on Rt. 4 west of Los Alamos, past Jemez Caldera, then on 126 to Cuba, NM. About a 20-mile stretch of 126 is basically a wideish dirt trail. Car was pig-dirty when I was done, but actually did fine and the small size came in handy when meeting eastbound cars.

I saw that too.
Edit: As for not being a real car, I had an interesting conversation with a small business owner one evening. The business requires sending out behavioral health professionals to see patients in their homes. Many of these patients live in rural areas requiring several hours of driving to reach. The company fleet consists of Smarts and a few 1st generation Prii. The owner has even driven a Smart to Vegas and back (about 400 miles each way) and is very happy with it. BTW, she also owns a 560 SEC, but it only comes out on some weekends.

When I was a kid, me and a friend used to take my dad’s golf cart boonie stomping along the trails carved out of dirt and rock to access electrical transmission lines, that were next to the golf course. If that lowly cart can stomp then so can a Smart.
The Smart probably doesn’t weigh a lot more and has higher ground clearance. I bet it doesn’t have its own wet bar, however. Last edited by link; 06-26-2013 at 12:30 PM. |

Pretty clever ad. I'd still consider a diesel or electric Smart for bombing around town in (if I had the additional cash to do that).

Did anyone else notice that the Smart scraped the MB behind it as the Smart pulled into the parking spot?

I had to play it and do stop-time on it to catch that. Good editing, but they should have clipped it a bit more, eh? |
