I spoke with one of the hostages a few years later. According to him that's all they wanted.

Hummm..... Could you be thinking of the gold held in the US that belonged to Iran? The gold that was placed there in the name of the Shah and by law could only be transferred by the Shah?

The gold that Carter said the US could seize to pay for US assets, such as a massive refinery, that the Iranians seized?

The Iranians were asking for a lot of stuff there towards the end of the 'standoff' because they were trying to find a face saving way out of the mess they had gotten themselves into.

Carter was buying none of it. Nor was President-elect Reagan. When the Iranians holding the hostages figured this out all that was left to do was to come up with a way out that would not get them all a life sentence for selling out to the Great Satan.

No, Snowden did NOT do the right thing. He is a deliberate traitor.

That said, I firmly believe that there is at least a little bit of good that comes from everything. In this case, as a side benefit, we learned about the NSA activity towards Americans. So his score is about a 1000 negative points for being a traitor and 1 point for the fact that we learned about the NSA activity. Still makes him a BAD guy!

If it were WWII time frame, before the commy/socialists took over America, he would hang from a rope.

Not sure I'd score it exactly like that:
Snowden--+100 points for revealing the government spying on US citizens, -1000 points for revealing that information in a wrong way,
-10,000 points for pure stupidity--like Princess Lea to Hans Solo in the first Star Wars Movie--" When you came in here didn't you have a plan for getting out?

US government agencies spying on US citizens w/o warrants -100,000

Lack of oversight by elected officials who took an oath to " Protect, preserve and defend the Constitution of the US " -1,000,000,000,000

Clearly it is the sole fault of conservatism.

Nah, he wasn't a conservative. So we have to find somebody associated with Bush who is a conservative.

Well, Bush did take credit for it today. He said the whole PRISM thing was great and he was glad he had a hand in seeing to it that it came about.

I sometimes wonder if Conservatives even knew Bush was President. I can't think of a single they they want to give him credit for.

He only looked good when compared with Kerry---who STILL is an incompetent, arrogant, ignorant boob.

And now O'Bammie has been president for over 4 years. At anytime during the last 4 years he could have ended the PRISM program but he didn't. It's his baby now. Also both PRISM (see also Echelon program) and the Patriot Act have their roots in the original FISA act (Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act) which was introduce into congress by none other than Teddy Kennedy and signed into law by Jimmy Carter. But you can keep blaming Bush, I know it makes you feel good about your politics.
