Rotella T6...

Doesn't taste very good...!

Discovered this by accident...

Also discovered that wet clutches don't like it when there is too much oil! Seems they like to slip a bit more than usual when overfilled! It starts to lack the "bite" that they have when everything is normal!

I once accidentally discovered that 87 octane gasoline tastes like cheap saki.

I run Shell Rotella T6 in my bike and my car. Compared to Motul 10W-40, I get a little bit smoother shifts with the Rotella in the bike. The car gets it since it doesn't have a block heater and it gets below zero here sometimes.

Can't say that I have developed much of a palate for motor oils, but I can report with some assurance that ATF is difficult to wash our of your hair.

On the bike, just make sure you don't use an API "starburst" energy conserving oil. The slippery additives can cause the clutch to slip.

Is it wet clutch rated by JASO?

Yes it is - and everyone on the Ninja 250 forum I am on say it is one of the best oils to use.

The friction zone on my clutch is still feeling inconsistent, even after I corrected the oil level. I'm sending it to the dealer today to have them change the oil to the Kawi recommended oil, and adjust the clutch.

Honestly should have done this in the first place!

I wouldn't. You won't know what is what unless you change one thing at a time. Adjust clutch and see

Yeah, I accidentally had some cheap sake once also. I wasn't a fan. Still waiting to try some good stuff served by someone who knows what they're doing. I'll withhold judgment until then.

Wouldn't have? Changed the oil, adjusted the clutch, or have the dealer look at it?

Change both oil and adjust the clutch. I'd have them adjust the clutch and keep the same oil and top off for spills when when adjusting the clutch.

I don't see any value in sending it to the dealer. Get the oil level correct and just ride the silly thing. If the clutch plates are too well oiled it may slip a little bit, but riding it is going to drive the excess oil out of the clutch plates. I'll bet you it returns to normal in no time.

Make sure you have enough slack in the clutch cable. The lever should have a few mm of free play before it starts pulling the cable.

He already did correct the oil level and if it still slips, either the oil is not wet clutch certified (which it is) or there could be something else wrong with the clutch. Kinda why I suggested adjusting ONLY the clutch. If it is still there, there is something else we need to look at.

How overfull of oil are we talking here?

A wet clutch doesn't literally run bathed in oil. More like there is a light spray or sometimes even splash lubrication of the clutch. If it got really soaked, I would run it for a while to "dry it out" before taking any other action. Hence my $.02.
