Coup in Egypt
Muslim Brotherhood on way OUT....:)
Supporters of Egyptian president say military coup is underway - World News |
The following sentence in the report is very odd;
." Egyptians hoped he would build a more pluralistic and tolerant country." I seriously doubt that the majority of Morsi's supporters had such hopes. They had hopes that their religion would become dominant. |
My concern, once again, is Israel, and if Egypt's military will honor the peace agreement, like they did when they took the last guy out.

^ True. When I lived & served there, Egypt was a pluralsitic society, esp for the middle east. MB & Morsi wanted a theocracy......

Heard a comment this morning about the MB perhaps being less of a problem above ground than going back underground. I do think Morsi has a point about being democratically elected. Sounds like they need to adopt a parlaimentary recall system.
I agree the last thing the Army would want is to go to war with Israel. The Generals surely also want to keep the Canal open and shipping moving. Oil jumped up yesterday a little bit on "fears" of shipping interruption. Egypt has a lot of problems that revolving door governments and warring factions won't solve. Meanwhile the bus parking lots at the pyramids are empty.:rolleyes: |
Heard a rumor that Morsi and Snowden are on a private jet rapidly approaching their final destination:cool:.

Egypt killings
We are sending Egypt money, for their army, to purchase American built munitions, to kill the Muslim Brotherhood (the Shia side or is it the other group? I don't remember), where our Pres supported their Pres Morsi to be elected in a democratically run election. Ok ya'll answer me this. Is it because the US is the WalMart of the Munitions business? You think the pols been purchasing General Dynamics? Ya'll think the government is paying close attention to the actions where the unrest is happening to get ideas on how to deal with it when the zombie apocalypse starts over here? Did the gov finally figure out that Morsi was for the Brotherhood and decided they did not want Egypt to be hard core Muslims? I thought we were supposed to be out there spreading democracy? Keep in mind too that they look at ppl in the US as representing the "christian" religion. Realizing how they are about their religion it is not hard to see another hate slant in this regard but that is for another thread. It will be interesting to see how it plays out once it spills over into Isreal and how the US will get involved. Anyone want to surmise who the enemy is going to be? same song, different country |
The Brotherhood is very well organized due to being the central focus of resistance to dictatorships for so many years. They'll win elections due to this organizational strength. They aren't 'democrats' in any western sense. They are theocrats who use elections to legitimize theocracy.

I guess "democratic" is a little strong in this sense.
|
Yes. The question I ask to test a person's views on these kinds of issues is: "Do humans have legitimate authority to legislate?" I can guess as to the Brotherhood's answer. No point in having a legislature if humans can't legislate.
