When in the Course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another, and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.

Indeed. Jefferson was a much better political philosopher than he was a President.

Fun fact: The traditional birthdays of three of the five active duty branches of the military predate our nation's birthday.

U.S. Army: June 14, 1775
U.S. Navy: October 13, 1775
U.S. Marines: November 10, 1775

Yep, and seniority determines the way service flags are presented and flown together.

The colors are always on the right as presented. Then it's Army, Navy, Marines, Coast Guard (1790).
I imagine, although I am not sure, the USAF flag is the most junior branch and would be farthest on the left as presented?
