And yet the captain of the plane was subjected to the same screening as everyone else. Why should this wounded soldier not have to go through screening if the pilot himself is subjected the the same thing?

Of course its annoying, thats not in question. You seem to want a completely subjective screening process though. If you are loud enough, wearing something specific, abusive enough, ect, you get to pass through without screening.
Once you open the door of subjective screening, maybe we should let woman and infants through without screening, maybe people wearing leather shoes on tuesday, maybe on fridays anyone wearing a blue hat gets through without screening.

Which is what the wounded soldier learned about his refusal to take off his coat. The rules apply to everyone without exception. Of course, you do have the option not to travel via air.

'Public' airlines are a joke, first, you get felt up by TSA, then your reward for clearing 'security' is you get to share a long aluminum cigar tube full of rude, inconsiderate idiots. And, there is more than a good chance that your luggage will be lost in the process. What a deal.

According to Travel and Leisure, in 2012 airlines lost 3.09 bag per 1,000. Do you really consider 3/1000 of 1% a "more then good chance"? I believe your odds of getting creamed on the street in your car are significantly higher. Knock your self out.

Sullenberger went before congress and told them that he could no longer recommend a career as a pilot to ANYONE. As for the story I shared, I concur with the pilot 100%. Fingernail clippers?? Give me a break.

BTW, back in the 1970s pilots could and did carry a firearm. Seems it acted as a deterrent to any would be terrorists. Those days are gone, today's 'security measures' involve seeking out and seizing dangerous substances like mouth wash and dangerous contraband like finger nail clippers. Plus, your luggage is now open to any Tom, Dick or Harry to rummage through and steal items they may find interesting.

Go look at some aviation web sites. The TSA is pretty low on the pole for pilot issues. They do not like the fact that pay has been reduced and hours have increased and their unions are getting ****** slapped around.

If I was a pilot back then, and my choices were to trade shots in a populated, pressurized airplane cabin with a hijacker, or to fly some dolt to Cuba, I would have brushed up on my Spanish.

Planes with armed pilots had a distinct advantage over those that didn't. Don't worry, today's pilots don't need a firearm because we have the ever vigilant TSA agents removing any and all contraband from both the flight crew and the boarding passengers. Flying is now 100% SAFE.
