Texas oil production....
Production is currently running at 74,000,000 bbls a month. That puts Texas at the number 15 spot on the list of world oil producers.
The production rates have doubled during the past three years. So.... Can anyone explain why Conservatives are saying that Obama is restricting oil production in the US? |

I suspect that the production is on private land, correct?

That is private land production. When Saint Obama was blowing smoke a year or so ago, he was spinning and obfuscating as per his normal MO. Oil prices are up, so those terrible capitalists are drilling, gracing, etc, more where they can, so they can make money. If Saint Obama would open up a few small areas of public land like the 2000 acres in Alaska, there would be WAY more domestic oil production than what Texas is pumping. That would make LOTS of jobs, give us lower gas prices and allow the country to boom again. Of course that would be no good for Saint Obama because he would lose the control that welfare, food stamps and other massive govt programs give him. Bottom line, he was feeding you bull shlt a year or so ago when he tried to represent private production as public land. There is much more to that obfuscation than what I want to key in on this stupid IPad at this time of the morning.

What difference does it make, public or private land?

Makes a HUGE difference. If the environmentalists were to open up very specific SMALL plots of public land for drilling, we could put LOTS of Americans back to work and stimulate the economy. We also could tell the Middle Eastern countries to drink their oil because we don't want it.
Right now, the high crude prices are stimulating investment in getting the stuff out of the ground on private land. Wouldn't it be great to be seeing the same kind of boom doubled or quadrupled?

Hey Pooka, a question.
If public lands were opened for drilling today, how long would it take to bring that oil into production?

However long it is, the sooner you start, the sooner you reap.

I'm still on clear on why it makes a difference? Larry can you elaborate more?
Does not the drilling company have to lease/buy the land from either a private owner or the government? I can't believe the government would let them drill for free?

No, the government wouldn't let them drill for free. That means there is tax revenue that, if we had honest politicians, could be put toward the national debt. The fact that there is not enough oil on private land to take care of our needs. Drilling on some identified, small areas on public land could produce adequate oil for independence from the ME.
In addition it would produce MANY jobs. Does everyone recognize the need for more jobs at this point? Why is this not obvious to everyone reading this thread?

About 50% of power in the Northeast is derived from nuclear. Running vehicles with electricity even at East Coast US rates is significantly cheaper than fossil fuel power. Chew on that.

In case nobody noticed, the U.S. is in the middle of an oil boom. Estimates are being made that in 2014 we will only need to import 30% of total supply. All that without impacting sensitive public lands. Bloomberg recently questioned whether we even need Larry's evil pipeline.
Throwing around buzz-phrases like "dependence on foreign oil", and "buying our oil from our enemies" sure doesn't add clarity to the issue, neither does harping on the arguable-at-best connection between drilling in ANWR and some magical plunge in gas prices.

And guess who's harping the big lie --fuel prices would go down if just.....
Ridiculous, prices are never going down again any signifigant amount, all those wonderful oil Co COE's using the very reassuring energy independence line. They just instantly become free traders and sell to the hightest bidders overseas Seems like being reamed by a big ole dirty canadian oil co would have taught him something. |
