Fwiw, for those who do not have air conditioning, if the temp inside is about 94 degrees or >, put a fan on your computer and open the cover (unless it’s a server or not designed to run with the cover removed). Computers can have problems starting at around this temp.

The problem with any table is the fundamental assumption that is made regarding the cooling capability.

There is an assumption of the maximum delta in temperature that any of those units can achieve.

If the table is prepared for a dwelling in NY with a typical maximum delta of 20 degrees, it's certainly not going to be applicable for TX with a typical maximum delta of 35 degrees. In fact, it could be argued that the size of the machine needs to be nearly doubled for TX heat.

Furthermore, a window a/c is typically used intermittently and there is a strong need to bring the room temperature down in a "reasonable" time. Most folks want the temp down in two hours or less. A "properly sized" unit will take more than eight hours to reduce temperature to an acceptable level. This is completely unacceptable to most occupants and, the general consensus is that a larger machine is necessary.

Finally, the machine is almost always too large with the one exception being when the temperature is at the maximum delta. If sized perfectly for that temperature, the compressor runs at a 100% duty cycle on that day and that day only. Every other day, the compressor cycles and, when it does, the humidity immediately starts back up.

As an example, I'm sitting an a bedroom with 175 sq. ft. In theory, a 6K unit should do the job. The Panasonic is 7800 and it is running at about a 50% duty cycle at the moment (to maintain a delta of 12). It will run close to 75% to maintain a delta of 17 later this afternoon. If the delta climbed to an estimated 25, it would be running flat out to maintain temperature...........quite a disparity from the tables.

See if you can find a used Panasonic in either 7800 or 10K. I found one in NYC for $75 and it's now replaced the 15 year old Fedders which finally died (compressor wouldn't engage).

They are exceptionally quiet and many times you can operate them on "LO"...........nearly silent.

Once you use a Panasonic A/C, you will never go back. Sadly, they don't make a/c's anymore.
Any larger, and I'll need to bring 220V over to this room.

I picked up a 15K Sharp unit at Costco for a steal ($330 by recollection). It's a very efficient 115V unit and it performs flawlessly in a rather large NYC apartment living room. It can actually maintain a 15F. delta in a severe environment of a brick building and the lack of capability of cooling in just about every adjacent apartment (due to much smaller.........10K..........machines).

220V is a thing of the past unless you're cooling an entire house.

Even if you did need to bring 220V, as long as you have a dedicated A/C outlet with 12 ga wiring going to it, putting the neutral wire on the opposite hot leg and installing a 220V outlet is child's play (assuming your panel has room for another breaker).

I had two Sharp 15K units in my house in New Paltz. One in the Living Room and one in the Dining Room. If it was not to hot out, I would run one of them and the entire first floor would cool down. If the temp climbed above 93 I would turn the second unit on and the downstairs, LR, DR, Kitchen and my office would still be comfortable.

Both units were 115v

They also had neat remote controls and timers so you can have them run only when you wanted them to. The thermostatic control let me set the temp, say to 78, and keep it pretty close to that temp - at the machine...

The Frigidaire that I bought for my rental property has a sensor in the remote itself, so you can sense temperature in the middle of the room, rather than at the unit.

Last year sometime my buddy bought two 10K 120V units for his house. Well worth it!

It was one of the few units that could be ordered in a timely manner, fit the existing sleeve (didn't want to deal with HOA/building permits to replace), was reasonably priced, and ran on 220V. It will probably run 5 days out of the year since the unit we're talking about is in coastal San Diego county

Honestly, I probably wouldn't replace it, since it's mainly just there for looks.

It's days like this I really wish I didn't have my health issues...I've had a hell of a craving for an ice cold beer to help cool me off. I may risk it later this afternoon...if I don't post again, you'll know what happened...!

They're flying out of Lowe's dont'cha know. I was behind a woman last night buying 2 - a 10,000 & a 5,000.

I've bought a few at Lowe's myself. They'll do for me 2 months a year, then rest inside the rest of the year.
There was no such thing as Central Air when the old girl went up. I can hardly remember the days when the sea breezes were all we had for summer heat relief.

Summers are getting hotter!

Beer won't do much to cool you. Maybe make you nod off tho.

Lemonade, Iced Tea, or H2O better choices if you want to stick around

I've been drinking iced tea like there's no tomorrow...that coupled with the Lasix I take, I've worn out the path to the bathroom! LOL I've been putting at least two quarts of water away each day as well...to stay hydrated, which is what the Lasix clears out. it's a never ending cycle...
