For those not familiar with this case, I recommend a viewing of the movie, "The Departed". IMHO, this is one of the most complex cases ever brought forth in any court room.

I was listening to an interview with an author, forgot his name, that recently had a book publicized about Bulger. He was basically a FBI informant with a license to kill, he used the FBI to grap more power and to get rid of his adversaries. And he was a gun runner for the IRA.

I didn't know about the gun runner part, interesting. It is as though the guy lived disparate lives and operated on different levels.

Most of the Irish population of Boston supported the IRA with money and weapons. At Sunday's mass they would collect for the IRA; weapons for the IRA came from Boston and Libya.

It has been a fascinating story to follow, although admittedly I am a mob-story/movie fan. I was probably the only one watching the Black Donnelly's on NBC.

This guy getting wacked cracked me up. I'll be surprised if he died of natural causes. So this guy was going to testify against Whitey, Whitey dumb enough to think he's going to get out again? He can kill all witnesses against him and he's still in the joint until he dies.

Probably not dumb enough to think he'll get out again but certainly vindictive enough to continue to off anyone that may be slighted him along the way. That's with the big assumption that Rakes was whacked (awfully convenient, though!).
