"Shuttin' Detroit Down"

My daddy taught me in this country everyone's the same
You work hard for your dollar and you never pass the blame
When it don't go your way
Now I see all these big shots whining on my evening news
About how they're losing billions and it's up to me and you
To come running to the rescue

Well, pardon me if I don't shed a tear
They're selling make believe and we don't buy that here

Because in the real world they're shuttin Detroit down
While the boss man takes his bonus paid jets on out of town
DC's bailing out them bankers as the farmers auction ground
Yeah, while they're living up on Wall Street in that New York City town
Here in the real world they're shuttin Detroit down
Here in the real world they're shuttin Detroit down

Well that old man's been working in that plant most all his life
Now his pension plan's been cut in half and he can't afford to die
And it's a crying shame, 'cause he ain't the one to blame
When I looked down to see his calloused hands
Well let me tell you friend it gets me fightin mad

'Cause in the real world they're shuttin Detroit down
While the boss man takes his bonus paid jets on out of town
DC's bailing out them bankers as the farmers auction ground
Yeah, while there living up on Wall Street in that New York City town
Here in the real world they're shuttin Detroit down

Yeah while they're living up on Wall Street in that New York City town
Here in the real world they're shuttin Detroit down
Here in the real world they're shuttin Detroit down
In the real world they're shuttin Detroit down
They're shuttin Detroit down

Yes

This has been accurately forecast since 1974.

Most intelligent humans knew this was going to happen.

When income falls BELOW outgoing payments: STOP SPENDING...

Metro Detroit had 775,000 food aid recipients in May, with two thirds or about 520,000 in Wayne County.

2012 Detroit, Michigan population estimate, 701,475

Extreme LEFT Democrats, Extreme Liberal policy, corrupt politicians, Bloated entrenched bureaucracy, insane rules/regulations, stupid high taxes.

Three words accurately describe Detroit government:
* Misfeasance
* Malfeasance
* Nonfeasance

When I heard the news, my first thought was, "Detroit still has a functioning government?"

I've never been to Detroit, but what I've heard and what I've seen portrayed on tv make me associate the place with Fallujah when I was there during OIF, only dirtier and more violent. I guess it isn't that bad.

I do not understand why the tax base would be shrinking. They elected all democrats for decades, it should be utopia. Oh wait the tax base shrunk the takers stayed, and payers left thats how the tax base shrunk.

Some things never change. The parallels are amusing, especially among the leadership.

200 years ago.

It shrank because producing cars takes lots less people now than fifty years ago, more unemployment less people spending money on goods and property, all because people stopped buying us built cars from the big three. Management decided to build trucks and suvs instead of building fuel efficient vehicles because short term profit was massive. Now that people have confidence in the imports the japanese are building full size vehicles that offer amenities that our own do not and they are taking that market as well. So its not just democrats and black folks who "caused" the demise of Detroit.

But they're so much easier to blame.

But Tom, didn't the auto unions kill Detroit, and aren't they full of black people and Democrats?

Oh sure, we're glossing over the fact that it was a one-industry town, and no one had an incentive to diversify the economy, but...

I hope everyone is paying attention to the sequence of events in Detroit. Unless SERIOUS steps are taken by the self serving idiots in DC, this is the same pattern that the country as a whole is following.
