Instrumentation for Powerstroke

I have a 2000 F350 with the Powerstroke motor. I would like to be able to monitor what's going on with the motor and transmission. Can anyone recommend a good source for information about the best way to do it? Mostly, I am curious about turbo boost, exhaust temperature, and transmission fluid temperature. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Check out the Powerstroke forum at ford-trucks.com. Those are all common mods.

oilburners.net is also a reliable source.

Isspro/Autometer gauges on a 3 gauge A-pillar pod.

870-422-3673. Brian's Truck Shop. He sold Dad a nice setup. Now if you want just gauges and not a LCD readout screen, that might be different. Let us know which way. Strictly Diesel - Diesel Performance Parts

Both are excellent shops to deal with.

Instructions: Gauge Installations at DieselManor- 1999-2003 7.3L Powerstroke

I would NOT recommend doing the EGT anywhere but the manifold.

You don't really need instrumentation for a stock application. Can I ask why?

Gauges

Go to dp-tuner (yes, we are not talking about the sexual term of dp) and see what they offer for performance mods if you want.

Mostly for my own education. As the truck ages (it's coming up on 14 years and 150,000 miles), it makes sounds and does things it didn't do before. I would be curious to know what is going on and maybe get a better idea about how the truck should be driven under load.

For example, when pulling a heavy trailer at highway speed with the overdrive turned off, it makes a sound as if the turbo is hunting. Every now and then, it also makes an odd, high-pitched noise. There is no change in vehicle speed and there does not seem to be any change in engine speed, either. It's just a noise that sounds like the turbo is hunting with the occasional high-pitched noise. Both noises go away when you turn on the overdrive and let the engine speed drop down. I am not comfortable driving with the hunting sound and high-pitched noise, but I also don't like pulling a heavy trailer up long grades while in overdrive. I thought some more information about what is going on with the systems might shed light on what is going on.

Why are you pulling with OD turned off? Unless the transmission is hunting, I don't see the point. It might be your wastegate. IDK. I replaced mine with the Van turbo and bypassed the EBPV and Wastegate. Now I have a GTP38R with ball bearings and a 1.15A/R housing like the Van turbo which has no wastegate or EBPV.

2000s didn't have that stupid diode that wrecks transmissions. Still, I think a transmission valve body from Brian might do you a world of good.

Someone (I don't recall who) told me that it is hard on the transmission to pull a heavy load while in overdrive.

That someone wasn't the engineer who had a hand in designing it whom we asked on a forum or Brian or John Wiods to name a few.

I have Autometer Pro-something on my truck, 1 5/8" in pods on the dash. I like the 1 5/8 gauges because they're easier to see.

A friend of mine is an engineer at Isspro and if I was to do it again, I'd go that way. There's also a bunch of companies making "data centers" bundled with their tuner applications that will display a host of information.

I was a truck guy for years before I was a MB guy...
